Summary
Dragon Ball Sparking! Zerofeatures its fair share of tough fights. Some even find it easier to fight human opponents online than the game’s single player bots at their strongest. Even if players have the skills to overcome a little input reading, some episode battles will still put them at a severe disadvantage.
There’s more to these scenarios than just beating the opponents, too. Some alternate paths and fights require certain conditions to be met during battle, like winning within a time limit. These factors can turn some ofDragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’s episode battlesinto very tough encounters, but some are arguably harder than others.
8Trunks Vs. Vegeta, Gohan, & Piccolo
To Become The Strongest In The Universe
Once players have unlocked the Future Trunks mission “Trunks' Choice,” Trunks is asked by Bulma to stay in their timeline. Players can then choose between the “Staying in the Present” or “Go Back to Your Timeline” options.
Choosing to stay opens up this battle, where Trunks trains with Vegeta one last time. Gohan and Piccolo decide to join, and taking down all three of them can prove to be quite tough. To unlock the alternate path forward, players need to win in a short time limit, so the best approach is to get into sparking mode as quickly as possible and punish with combos into super moves.
7Piccolo Vs. Perfect Cell
The Cell Games
In Piccolo’s final episode battle, he must buy time for Gohan by taking on Perfect Cell. Canonically, Piccolo isn’t going to be able to defeat Cell in this form, so players can expect a tough fight. It is possible to get the win, though, and doing sounlocks a new Sparking episodewhere Gohan overcomes Cell thanks to Piccolo’s training, rather than Goku’s assistance.
This fight can be a frustrating one. Cell will spam super moves, interrupt charging with ki blasts, and block most attempts at rush attacks and combos. A useful strategy is for players to spam Piccolo’s light grenade move, as Cell is less likely to evade it.
6Future Trunks Vs. Goku Black & Zamasu
Shining Hope
Unlocking Future Trunks' Shining Hope alternate path is tricky, as players have to defeat one ofthe strongest characters in the game, and this needs to be done quickly. When Future Trunks fights Zamasu and Goku Black during the Twisted World mission, players have to defeat both within the time limit to follow this new storyline.
It’s a tough fight due to the defensive abilities of the AIs combined with the strength of the opponents. Making use of Trunks' sparking combos to whittle down health andunleashing his super moveto finish off the opponent’s last health bar can be an efficient approach.
5Goku Vs. Goku Black & Zamasu
The Truth About Zamasu
During Goku’s Super Saga episodes, some of thehardest fights inDragon Ball: Sparking! Zerotake place. Beating Goku Black and Zamasu in this time-limited fight is among the more challenging ones. Players have to beat this fight to unlock the alternate Unstoppable Rage ending.
It’s the opponents' ability to draw out the fight with big health pools and defensive abilities that can be the issue here. Players will want to focus on creating openings by vanishing and punishing them with as much damage as they can output before the foe has a chance to respond.
4Goku Black & Zamasu Vs. Vegito & Future Trunks
Proof Of Justice
Fighting Vegito and Future Trunks isn’t the hard part in this mission, even though they’re no easy foes. Players have strong characters to use here, which evens the odds. The challenge is in unlocking the Proof of Justice ending, by winning the fight without fusing.
The fusion happens automatically after a set time, which means that it’s really just another timed fight, but it can be tough to get both opponents down before it happens. Players should fall back on Goku Black’s super moves as punishes, as they do high damage.
3Goku Vs. Goku Black, Zamasu, & Fused Zamasu
Into A Third Future
Another alternate scenario in Goku’s Super Saga episodes, this is one of Goku’stoughest fights inDragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Tounlock The Three Prevail endng, Goku has to defeat Goku Black, Zamasuand, and then Fused Zamasu within the time limit.
As if taking down two full health pools wasn’t enough, Fused Zamasu gets his own health bars to work with. Players will have to avoid losing too much health early on to withstand Fused Zamasu, who is one ofDragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’s toughest fighters.
2Jiren Vs. Ultra Instinct Goku
Ultimate Climactic Battle
Jiren’s episodes are some of the last that unlock in Episode Battle Mode, and they make up some of the toughest fights in the game. That is if players weren’t playing as Jiren. He’s incredibly strong, both in lore and in the game.
However, if there’s one fighter that can challenge players to play Jiren well, it’s Goku in his Ultra Instinct form. Players will experience this fight after beating Master Roshi in the Ultimate Climactic Battle scenario, fighting Goku after he awakens his Ultra Instinct. Even after players beat this version of Goku, he’ll get right back up again as True Ultra Instinct Goku, with shiny silver hair and another 7 health bars. The endurance factor of pushing through both strong incarnations of Goku makes this a demanding battle.
1Goku Vs. Great Ape Vegeta
Vegeta’s Secret Maneuver
This fight is so toughthat players have complained about it en masse on social media since the game’s release. Fighting giant characters is never easy, something thatDragon Ball Sparking! Zerohas carried over from earlierTenkaichigames, and Vegeta’s Great Ape form easily makes for thehardest episode battle. It’s made even harder by the fact it happens fairly early on in the Episode Battle Mode, so players likely won’t have seen characters from the giant category before. They output a lot of damage and can take players unaware with hyper-armor and devastating grab attacks.
One mustn’t make the mistake of getting up close early in this fight; Vegeta will tank straight through hits and use those grabs to great effect. Instead, players will want tofocus on dodging ranged attacksand building ki to enter sparking mode. At this point, they can flinch Vegeta with punches, making fighting up close possible. Players can punish with combos into super moves and get distance again to rinse and repeat this strategy.
