Bloober Team has done an incredible job in remakingSilent Hill 2, providing hardcore fans of the classic with a faithful experience, while also bringing something new to the table with incredible attention to detail, combat, and puzzles. Within the best puzzles in theSilent Hill 2remake, comes an incredible variety of challenges across its many chapters.
As players attempt to unravel the horrors and mystery of the town of Silent Hill, they are going to be faced with immovable puzzles that must be solved to progress through the game. Some of the hardest puzzles inSilent Hill 2require a deep knowledge of poem structure, pathing, and math, and it all adds to the fun.
6Coin Puzzle
Reveal the Story of the Man, the Woman, and the Snake
The Coin Puzzle is the main focus of Wood Side Apartments, and players must navigate through the cold and abandoned apartments, facing off against the hiding Manequins and the spitting Lying Figures to locate a series of coins. Once players have located the Man, Woman, and Snake coins, they can embrace the riddle that awaits them in the coin cabinet, and it’s not going to be easy.
The coin cabinet reads a story to players, and those smart enough will have to figure out where to place each of the three coins to navigate through the story. Each coin has two sides, meaning there are technically six coins in total. Perhaps even harder is the repercussions that come from the puzzle’s end, as the coin cabinet asks James to pass judgment and place either the Man, Woman, or Snake in the center to show who is burdened with sin. Their choice may just impact the ending.
5Moth Puzzle
Uncover the Symbols on Taxidermied Moths
The Otherworld is a terrifying place, and as players creep through the rotted Blue Creek Apartments, they will eventually find themselves in Room 202, which has an abundance of fluttering moths as well as a collection of dead ones. Players must use their wit to uncover the symbols and their meaning on the wings of each moth in the display cases.
For those unfamiliar, it’s extremely hard to grasp the obscure nature of the puzzle, and trying to decipher the meaning behind the symbols without understanding that each displayed moth has a number of symbols that need to be tallied up, will have players trapped in this room for perhaps too long.
4Director’s Office Safe Puzzle
Decipher the Symbols on a Faded Bookshelf
Not only will players have to navigate across the dreaded halls of the Brookhaven Hospital to find and solve thebracelet puzzle in the Director’s Office, but they must then decipher the symbols in the back room to uncover the correct book order which will tell them the individual numbers of each symbol. Yet, on Hard Puzzle Difficulty, the books are more faded.
Heading to the safe to try the combination, players are going to need to remember 6 numbers by understanding what the corresponding symbol is. It’s not the hardest puzzle, but there is an element of overwhelming complexity due to the mechanics involved.
3Chained Box Puzzle
Find the Solution to Three Locks Placed Upon a Chained Box
Entering again into the Otherworld, players will be traversing through the rusted Brookhaven Hospital, where on 2F, there’s a chained box that must be solved to reveal the escape. Yet, the chained box must require players to venture to 1F and 3F to uncover the codes and hints to the puzzle that will see them freed.
For the Chained Box, there is a Lapis Eye Key that must be found as well as two codes for the keypad and the combination lock. It’s a tad heavy on the backtracking elements, but it’s rewarding to finally reveal what’s inside and become one step closer to escape.
2Gallows Puzzle
Solve Six Poems Involving Crimes of the Guilty and the Innocent
The Gallows Puzzle unlocks after players finally solve thescales and weights puzzlewhich will have them navigating through the entire Toluca Prison. James’ torment doesn’t end with that solution, and it begins anew with the Gallows Puzzle, which sees players decipher the meaning behind six poems to figure out the innocent from the list of guilty crimes.
Each poem has a certain amount of stanzas and rhymes, so those unfamiliar with literature and the way poems are structured might just have a bad time here. There’s a lot of reading to be done, and when the puzzle has been solved, players must step into the noose of the innocent, and any other noose will see them dropped intoa room of enemies.
1Music Box Puzzle
Aid Three Fairy Tale Princess Figures in Returning to Their Boxes
In order to finally reach the truth awaiting in 3F of the Lakeview Hotel, players must venture across the desolate halls of this prestigious hotel in order to find three fairy tale princess figurines, which can all be placed into the music box found in 1F’s Lobby. After doing so, players must align the tracks by spinning the discs for each princess in order to allow them to navigate through to their correct doors.
Not only is tracing the track to the right pathdifficult without trial and error, but uncovering the riddles and the math involved for the next step takes quite the work. Players must turn the keys a certain number of times to successfully open the door in time for the figurine to enter, and it might take some tries before it is achieved.
