Original Horizon Zero Dawn PC Port Is No Longer Sold Separately

Shortly afterward, Sony opted to bundle the original version of the game with its upcoming remaster on Valve’s storefront. TheHorizon Zero DawnSteam pagenow only offers an option to purchase this newly created bundle. The two-pack retails for $49.99, matching the standard price ofHorizon Zero Dawn’s 2020 PC port. The change happened without much fanfare, with neither Sony nor Guerrilla Games saying anything about it as of October 4.

The mandatory bundle appears to be a Steam-only thing for the time being.Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Editionstill hasn’t returned to the Epic Games Store following its recent delisting, but remains available for purchase individually on the PlayStation Store. The latter has recently been the subject of some controversy, as Sony decided todoubleHorizon Zero Dawn’s PlayStation price after announcing its remaster. So, after spending years selling it for $19.99, the company is now asking $39.99 for the content-complete edition of the original game.

The decision, which proved to be deeply unpopular among fans, was seemingly rooted in a desire to have the original match the remaster’s $49.99 price once the $9.99 upgrade for its existing owners is taken into account. Newcomers would otherwise have been able to purchase the remaster at a $20 discount by simply buying the 2017 game and the DLC upgrade. An alternative solution would have been to offer the upgrade for $30, but that would have plausibly been a more difficult sell relative to what the new version of the game brings to the table.

Speaking of which,Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered’s list of selling pointsincludes the promise of improved textures, lighting, and animations. Guerrilla previously revealed that it re-recorded roughly ten hours' worth of dialogue motion capture for the project. Based on the promotional materials that have been shared to date, it would appear that the game’s overall color palette has also been adjusted to better match the aesthetic ofHorizon Forbidden West. Aside from the upcoming remaster, Sony’s hit franchise will soon also welcome another new entry in the form ofLEGO Horizon Adventures, which is scheduled to hit the market on November 14.
