After having taken care of the corrupted machines in the area, Aloy is free to go through the gates and enterCarja territory. This is where you gain access to the larger part of the map inHorizon Zero Dawn Remastered. Simply getting this far was a journey, but Meridian is a long way away from where you are now. Here is what you may expect to encounter as you go through the next main quest, The City of the Sun.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, proceed with caution.
Travel to Meridian
With the gate open, the rest of the map will be open for you to explore. Meridian is a long way away from your current location, and there is a lot to find on your way to the capital of the Carja. Make sure to stop by every campfire you see on the map, as this will open up more spots that you can fast travel to. While they are both out of the way, there are a couple of Tallnecks from which you can track down and extract data.
Along the road to Meridian, you’ll see a large machine roaming around knownas a Thunderjaw. At this point in the game, it will be at a significantly higher level than you. attempt to avoid it for now. Be mindful of where it currently is, as the main road takes you uncomfortably close to its patrol path.
When you arrive at Meridian you will see a bunch of guards. While they are stopping merchants for inspection, they let you pass without any issues. Approach the guard to trigger a cutscene.
Search Olin’s House
Once you are done talking to Erend, follow him to Olin’s house. When you arrive, look to the left and scan the areawith your Focus. It will point out that there is something under the rug. Examine the rug to find a sturdy hatch.
In order to break the hatch open, turn around and go upstairs. Next, go up the ladder on the second floor and approach the shipment of ingots. Examine the ingots and then push them so that they fall and break the hatch wide open.
While it may seem tempting to just jump down after the ingots, use the ladder and stairs to go back down as falling will do roughly 50% of your health in damage. Head down the stairs into the secret area. Three items in this room are highlighted when you activate your Focus. Examining the object with an audio symbol triggers a cutscene. After that, examine the map on the wall and the journal on the table. Talk to Erend after that, and you will start another main quest, The Field of the Fallen.
You also get the next objective for The City of the Sun, which is to track down Olin at the excavation site mentioned in his journal. Since both quests are part of the main story, you will have to do them both. Depending on your level, you can either continue focusing on the City of the Sun or you can chooseto help Erendfirst before tracking down Olin. There are also plenty of side quests to pick up in Meridian along with merchants, so make sure to stock up on anything you need before departing.
Find Olin
To reach Olin, head north from Meridian. As you get close to the excavation site, you will encounter some cultists patrolling the area along with some corrupted machines. Climb up the rock ledge and go down to the area with all the equipment and scaffolding to reach the excavation site.
As you arrive, you will trigger a cutscene. When the cutscene ends, you will have to take out the two Corruptors along with all of the cultists. Hit the Corruptors with Fire Arrows to overheat them and then take out the components on the left and right side. It is important to keep moving, as there will also be cultists shooting at you. Once the Corruptors are down, it will be much easier to focus on taking out any remaining cultists.
Talk to Olin
Olin is much more receptive to talking this time around. After you’ve asked him all the questions that are available, you will be given the option to spare him or not. The only difference the choice makes is whether he is there or not to help rescue his family from the cultists during the Collateral errand. There are no rewards you are locked out from based on your choice, so this decision is based on whether you think Olin deserves a second chance or not. Regardless of your choice, The City of the Sun concludes after the cutscene finishes.
