Despite having her own mission to focus on, Aloy is not one to turn her back on someone in need. She knows thatwith her Focus, she can help Erend learn what happened to his sister. As you progress through The City of the Sun inHorizon Zero Dawn Remastered, you will get another main quest called The Field of the Fallen. As you investigate what happened to Ersa, here is what you can expect to encounter.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, proceed with caution.
Go to Red Ridge Pass
From Meridian, go north. While traveling north, keep an eye out fora machine called Snapmaw. These machines bear the likeness of a crocodile, and you can encounter one directly on the road. If you end up having to fight them, make sure to hit the canisters on the top of them with Fire Arrows. This will cause them to explode a few seconds later.
As you get close to Red Ride Pass, you will hear the sounds of fighting. Erend is fending off a machine, but he needs help taking it out. Once the fight is over, speak with Erend.
Follow Erend
After giving details on what happened to his sister, Erend will lead you to where she was killed. When you arrive, activate the Focus and look to the right toward the thicket. Examine it and then use the Focus to follow the cart tracks. The tracks lead you to some ruins and an ambush.
Kill the Attackers
You don’t receive much of a warm welcome as you arrive. There will be several enemies at the top of the ruins armed with bows. A couple will come down to attack you from a closer range, while the others will stay up on the ruins and shoot at you from a distance.
After you kill the first group, two Ravangers come running up to attack. Keep your distance and shoot off the parts that glow when scanned with the Focus. When both machines have been destroyed, a cutscene will play.
When the battle is over, use the Focus to scan the two spots on the ground. Examine the blood and the bits of leather. There are also rocks and weapons that you will have to scan and then examine.
Climb up into the nearby ruins and examine the tripod. Then go back down to the ground and talk to Erend to report your findings. With news that his sister may yet be alive,Erend rushes offto confirm whether the body in Meridian is really his sister or not. This is where The Field of the Fallen concludes and Into the Borderlands begins.
If you haven’t completed The City of the Sun yet, make sure to stop by the excavation site where Olin is. Even at the top of the ruins, it is closer than Meridian is without taking fast travel into consideration.
