Up to this point inHorizon Zero Dawn Remastered, you’ve only had one main quest at any given time. Now,as Aloy sets outto track down the cultists that attacked her and the others during the Proving, you will have several main quests to take care of on your way to Mother’s Crown for A Seeker at the Gates.
The first of these additional main quests is called The War-Chief’s Trail. While Aloy’s quest is important, the massacre of Nora braves cannot go unanswered. Here is what you can expect as you begin The War-Chief’s Trail.
This walkthrough contains spoilers, proceed with caution.
Go to the Massacre Site
From the gate where you met Varl, there is a path you’re able to follow that will take you up toward the Massacre Site. If you got separated from theStrider you used Override onearlier, there is a Strider site north of the Main Embrace Gate.
There are plenty of resources along the way, so make sure to stock up so that you are ready for the road ahead. There are no downsides to staying stocked up on Ridge-Wood and other helpful resources.
As you make your way up north, there are several points of interest:
There are also new machines in the area called Scrappers. Scrappers have two weak points: one on their back and one on their tail. There is also a Sawtooth roaming around in Devil’s Thirst, so keep an eye out for that.
The path leading to the Massacre Site also goes right through the middle of a Grazer site. These machines can be avoided, but if you end up in combat with them, aim for the four canisters on their backs.
Investigate the Massacre Site
Once you arrive at the site, activate your Focus and begin scanning and examining the destroyed machines. Once you’ve examined enough machines, a survivor will come running up to the site. He will give you information about where he last saw Sona.
To get to this location, you will need to head southeast through Devil’s Thirst. Go past the metal tower toward the rock behind it. Go up along the left side and take a right to reach the top where you will find an abandoned campsite. Examine the campfire, bow, bandages, and arrowheads, which can all be revealed by using the Focus. After you’ve done all of that,Aloy will commenton the possibility of there being a blood trail she can follow.
Look for a trail with the Focus and then highlight it so that you can follow it easier. While following this trail, watch out for the corrupted Watchers that are patrolling it. The trail eventually leads you to a destroyed Sawtooth. Once you are close enough, a cutscene will start.
Follow Sona
Having successfully found the War Chief, your next objective is to follow her. Eventually, you will arrive at a ridge overlooking some corrupted machines below. For this next part, you will have to go down and take out the machines along with the cultists. How you handle this objective is up to you.
You can either slowly work your way through the dig site and stealthily take out enemies, or you can find a spot to get in close and blow up some Blaze barrels as part of an ambush. If you are detected, Sona and her forces will aid you in the battle. Once every enemy has been dealt with, speak to Sona down in the dig site.
Investigate the Dig Site
After the cutscene, activate your Focus and begin looking around for tracks. Highlight and follow them into a tent with a Focus file on a table. Scan this object to hear an audio message about a Blaze stockpile. Take this information back to Sona and Varl to complete this main quest.
