Earlier in 2024, the free to play deckbuilderMarvel Snapintroduced its Alliance system, which functions similarly to guilds or other similar social groups in other online games. Alliance members can chat with one another to exchange advice, track one another’s progress, and collectively work toward awards by participating in the Alliance Bounty system.Marvel SnapAlliance members can choose from a handful of bounties on the board to pursue, and rewards are doled out at the end of each week according to the total contributions of the members. The highest tier rewards for bounty completion are nothing to sneeze at, so the ease or difficulty of completing sufficient bounties is an important consideration for both players and the team at Second Dinner.

Game Rant spoke withMarvel Snapdevelopersabout how they decide which bounties to include in the pool, along with how they determine things like difficulty or rewards. Along with sharing some of their methodology around this system, Second Dinner also revealed plans for some impactful changes coming to the bounty system in the future.

Some Marvel Snap Bounties Were Easier Than Others

The developers use a number of metrics to track engagement with bounties, and these have revealed that players tend to struggle with a few specific bounty types. Destruction-oriented bounties such as “Destroy 8 Cards in a Match” are challenging for players lacking destructive options, while bounties encouraging Move play were another pain point among players. Althoughthe Move archetypecan be fun to pull off, the developers recognize that it’s one of the tougher playstyles to pull off, which makes its related bounties some of the less popular.

“We found that bounties requiring the destruction or movement of a certain number of cards in a single game were more difficult than expected, so we reduced those requirements accordingly. The Move archetype remains a challenge—it’s a rewarding deck to play, and we want to encourage players to try it out, but it can be difficult to pilot. Our goal is to find the right balance of requirements, frequency, and rewards so that every archetype feels equally enjoyable.”

In the interview, Second Dinner announced that difficulty adjustments to the bounty system were in the works. Rather than having requirements scale uniformly across bounty rarities, bounties will have varying completion thresholds for each rarity. Hopefully, this will result in players picking up underutilized bounties if they seem more manageable to complete. Additionally, the team plans to expand bounties to include a broader range of archetypes, opening the door for bounties focused onSilver Surfer decksor playstyles focused on Bounce.
