Choosing and changing your nickname shouldn’t be a difficult part of setting up your profile in any game. However, Activision’s Rename Token policy has made this a bit confusing for newcomers inBlack Ops 6.
Before we dive in, here are two key points to remember:
You can change your display name inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6.
You won’t be able to change it as frequently as you’d like.
This guide will outline two methods for renaming your profile inCoD: Black Ops 6and explain how to troubleshoot any errors you might encounter along the way.
How to Change Display Name from Game Settings
When you log intoCoD: Black Ops 6, the game will automatically display your current Activision ID linked to your device. If you don’t have an Activision account, you’ll need to create one on the developer’s website. This way, you’re able to start with your desired nickname.
To change your name inBlack Ops 6, you will need to restart the game. The changes take effect only after you restart.
How to Change Activision ID on a Browser
Changing your Activision ID onCall of Duty’s website will update your default in-game nickname for all linked games. If possible, choose a name you’re unlikely to want to change frequently so you won’t have to repeat this process foreachCoDgame.
How the Rename Tokens Work
Rename Tokens are tickets that limit how many times you can rename yourCoD: Black Ops 6account. UnlikeCall of Duty Mobile, you cannot purchase additional tokens from the shop. Each player is allowed to change theirBlack Ops 6name only twice per year—once every six months.
These tokens are shared between your in-game account and Activision’s website, meaning that renaming your profile through a browser won’t let you exceed the two changes per year.
Each player can have only two Rename Tokens at a time. When you use one, you’ll need to wait six months for it to be replaced with a new token.
How to Solve the Name Not Accepted Issue
DuringCall of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Beta, some players encountered the “Name Not Accepted” error, which was later addressed by the developers at Treyarch. This issue arose from the game’s automated spam and profanity detector incorrectly flagging players’ nicknames.
If you face this issue and believe your username is appropriate, you’ll need to contact game support. However, in most cases, the error results from the nickname containing or resembling inappropriate words. To resolve this, try using a different combination or selecting a safer name.
