Although Episode Battle mode is undoubtedly the main attraction inDragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, it’s far from the only source ofsingle-player content that the game has to offer. Tucked away inside the Custom Battle menu, players will be able to find 37 bonus battles, the most difficult of which is undoubtedly A Battle of Speed! Defeat Beerus!
The thing that makes this battle so frustrating is that Beerus has an attack that will kill the player instantly, which he seems to use at random points throughout the fight. However, what a lot ofDragon Ball: Sparking! ZEROplayers might not realize is that Beerus' OHKO attack isn’t random at all and can actually be prevented with the right strategy.
How to Complete the A Battle of Speed! Defeat Beerus! Bonus Battle in Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO
The key to completing A Battle of Speed! Defeat Beerus! is toprevent Beerus from using his instakill attack. The only way to do this is todeal 20% damage to Beerus every thirty seconds, which means players will need to take out around two full health bars per minute. They’ll be able to tell when they’re running out of time based on the dialog, as Vegeta will say “Oh no… They’re getting bored!” exactly ten seconds before time runs out. If Beerus says “I’m bored. It’s time to end this!” then it’s already too late.
The best strategy for dealing damage quickly is to spam Sparking Mode and then hit Beerus with a barrage of ki blasts. Just before Sparking Mode runs out, players should useVegeta’s Final Flash attack, being sure to do so after knocking Beerus back or downing him to maximize the chances of the attack landing. If Beerus is also in Sparking mode then players should switch to using combos instead, as he’ll automatically dodge ki blasts while his ki bar is glowing.
The trickiest part of A Battle of Speed! Defeat Beerus! is the opening section, as players will need to quickly deal or take enough damage to get a skill point, find enough space to charge the ki needed for Sparking Mode, and then quickly deal enough damage to prevent the firstOHKO attack. With this in mind, players may find it easier to just fire off Final Flash the second they enter Sparking Mode and restart if it doesn’t connect, as the timings for this first phase are incredibly tight.
Although it is technically possible to counter Beerus' instakill move by using Galick Gun a split second before Beerus attacks and thenwinning the resulting beam struggle, the timing for doing so is incredibly tight. With this in mind, players should instead focus on quickly dealing damage and use this strategy only as a last resort.
Rewards for Completing A Battle of Speed! Defeat Beerus!
In addition to EXP, defeating Beerus in A Battle of Speed! will reward players with30,000 Zeniandthe God of Destruction Training Battle Ability item, the latter of which will greatly increase the player’s maximum health while equipped. Players will also unlock the God vs. God Bonus Battle, which will in turn unlock Zamasu’s Greatest Mistake. Completing the latter will be important for those who want tounlock Bardock without spending any Zeni, as this is the only method for doing so.
Those who already purchased God of Destruction Training from the shop before completing A Battle of Speed! will have their 150,000 Zeni refunded after defeating Beerus.
