Fishing is one of the many trade skills inNew World: Aeternum, and it’s one of the best ones for stocking up on ingredients for useful food items. The fishing system in this game is pretty simple like in many other MMOs, and if you’re a fan of these kinds of side activities, you’ll have a lot to look forward to as soon as you get your first rod.
Players will need fish if they want access to some of the best food buffs in the game, which means getting fish on your own can be as lucrative as most of the othercrafting professions inNew World. Here’s what you need to know about how fishing works in this game.
How to Get Fish in New World: Aeternum
First, you’ll need to get a fishing pole. There are five fishing poles in the game, and you cancraft them at a T1 Workshop or T1 Camp. Alternatively, you can buy a premade fishing polefrom the trading post. Everyone can fish at any time, and you don’t need to useany specificNew Worldclassto do so.
After getting your pole, you’ll then need to find a suitable spot for fishing. You can fish in almost any sizable body of water. The type of fish you get will also vary depending on where you go fishing — saltwater fish can be caught in swamps and the ocean, while freshwater fish can be caught in rivers and lakes.
Once you’ve found an appropriate spot, approach the water and press F3 to enter Fishing Mode (for console players, Hold UP on your D-pad and select Fishing). Button prompts will appear on your screen, and you’ll be able to select your bait and cast your line by pressing the appropriate buttons.
After casting your line and hooking a fish, you’ll need to reel it in. Press the Left Mouse Button/RT/R2 to start reeling, and the white circle around the fishing icon will start to fill up.Let go of the button if the symbol in the middle turns orange/red.If you don’t, the fish might get away. Repeat this process until the fish is caught.
Maximize your cast distance to make reeling in fish easier, and try to fish in deep waters.
How to Get Fishing Bait
You can get bait byharvesting or salvaging resource nodes. Salvaging Clams will yield Clam Bait, harvesting Flint and bushes will yield worms and bugs, and so on. Some types of bait like Cheese and Bread can also be gathered from Provision Containers. verify to check these resource nodes if you’re doing something else, likefarming for gems inNew World.
Take note that you can fish even without using any bait. However, bait will increase your chances of getting certain type of fish depending on the kind of bait you use and where you’re fishing. Some common types of bait are:
Flint (during daytime)
Flint (during nighttime)
Meat Bait (Freshwater)
Cooking
Pay attention to the type of fish your chosen bait will attract. You wouldn’t want to harvest a ton of saltwater fish bait only to end up gathering freshwater bait instead.
