Chests are a common way to get loot inMetaphor: ReFantazio, though not every one is safe to immediately open. Some chests may actually be Imitecs, this game’s version of mimics. Once the chest starts to be opened, there is no way out of the battle aside from winning or being defeated.

Imitecs are usually multiple levels ahead of the other basic enemies of the dungeon, so it’s important to be prepared before trying to fight them. Imitecs also can’t be engaged in overworld combat like other enemies, further adding to the difficulty of fighting them. Luckily, there is a way for players to identify any Imitec so they can avoid it or properly prepare before jumping into combat; here’s how.

How To Spot An Imitec In Metaphor: ReFantazio

Spotting Imitecs is easily doneusing Fae Sight from Gallica. Regular chests appear with a white outline, while Imitecs will appear with one of the colors indicating theirdifference in level to the player. Even if you have spotted an Imitec, you’re able to’t trigger combat with it outside of opening the chest, meaning you can’t attempt to stun it using overworld combat.

Imitecs won’t attack the player in the overworldor show that they are not a chest, meaning they are easily avoided should you not want to fight them. While they can be avoided, they are still a chest, and defeating them will not only reward the player with the usual battle rewards but also give you an item like you just looted a chest.

How To Beat Imitecs In Metaphor: ReFantazio

There are multiple forms of Imitecs throughoutMetaphor: ReFantaziothat have different weaknesses, though they all have one weaknessfrom the Merchant Archetypethat can be taken advantage of. By using the Merchant’s, “Gold Attack”, theImitec will be enticed by the money and use up every other one of its Press Turn icons. Even if the Imitec is hitting your weaknesses and getting a third icon, it will still only attack once.

Gold Attack will need to be used each turn to keep the Imitec distracted, though the cost is well worth the effort. Imitecs not only reward high amounts of EXP and Reeve, butthe items they drop are fairly high-endcompared to what else is found in that dungeon, especiallyafter being purified.
