Hunt: Showdown 1896is continuing its recent revival with an exciting new crossover. After launching its new Harvest of Ghosts mode, which allows players to quickly dive into PvP for some fast-paced action, it has now introduced its own version ofGhost Face mask, as well as several new weapons to accompany it. While it may seem like a strange combination at first, a closer look reveals the effort that has gone into ensuringHunt: Showdown 1896’s world is a seamless fit for the Ghost Face mask.
Game Rant caught up with Crytek’s Stefan Heinrich,Hunt: Showdown 1896’s Art Director, to discuss Ghost Face’s design and how it fits withHunt’s world. He talked about the changes made to the mask and how all the Ghost Face Hunter’s new weapons share a common theme. He also touched on the use of different materials to create a more striking visual appearance for the weapons.
How Hunt Showdown 1896 Transforms Ghost Face’s Iconic Look
Since its inception, Ghost Face has gone on to become one of the most instantly recognizable figures in pop culture. The long, ghostly mask and black overalls that cover the entire body have become synonymous with Halloween. WithHunt: Showdown 1896taking place 100 yearsGhost Face ever existed, though, it was obvious to Heinrich that he would need to significantly tweak Ghost Face’s design for it to fit seamlessly intoHunt’s world. He explained:
‘‘We put our own stamp on the Ghost Face Hunter, designing him with the telltale Hunt aesthetic in mind. The mask became weathered and cracked, carved in wood. The typical black robe was replaced with a tattered duster and leather holsters to complete the look.’’
Hunt: Showdown 1896’s Ghost Face Hunter Uses Stealth to His Advantage
Heinrich and the team didn’t stop there, though, and tried to bring some ofGhost Face’s other important characteristicsto life in new ways. One of Ghost Face’s main advantages is the element of surprise, often sneaking up on unwitting victims, giving them very little time to escape or cry for help. The character tries to use the element of stealth wherever possible, and Heinrich wanted to incorporate this into the Ghost Face Hunter’s design:
‘‘One of the key themes we kept coming back to was ‘stealth’, which is why his weapons are all black. We incorporated gothic ornaments carved into dark wood leading to a rich and opulent feel. We wanted to create weapons that were special and precious to such a character. Another important aspect was the interplay of the different materials on the all-black surfaces, and we built upon this to create variation and visual interest. A unique touch was playing with the geometry of the silencer, creating a hexagonal shape that evokes a stronger gothic vibe, something we hadn’t explored before.’’
