Insomniac Games

Insomniac shared on social media that it has deployed PS5 Pro support updates forSpider-Man 2as well asRatchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Both of these updates are focused on thevisual enhancements that the PlayStation 5 Pro can offer games, taking advantage of its upgraded hardware and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. Each game now has a Performance Pro and Fidelity Pro mode.

Insomniac Releases PS5 Pro Support Updates

Performance Pro mode is selected as the default setting for both of thesetitles that have been upgraded for PlayStation 5 Pro, offering players 60fps while utilizing PSSR tech to bring the game up to Fidelity mode’s standards, which often target 4K resolution visuals. For each game, Performance Pro mode also switches on all ray-tracing features. Fidelity Pro mode offers 30fps gameplay while adjusting for newer ray-tracing features such as the quality level for reflections, ambient occlusion lighting data, and specifically forSpider-Man 2, ray-tracing key light shadows, which replace the game’s standard cascaded shadow maps.

ForSpider-Man 2, some of these new updates will be most impactful for the visuals in the city, which can be some of the most graphically demanding areas of the game. On the base PS5, crowd density is noticeably decreased in several areas to handle all the information the system is handling at once. However, the Fidelity Pro mode on the PS5 turns that density back up. InRift Apart, the impact of some of these features can vary on how demanding each area is to load into, but the PS5 Pro is targeting overall improvements. Gamers may be able to look forward to seeing more visual improvements inInsomniac’s upcoming projects, now that the developer seems to have a considerable grasp on these tools.
