Summary
A Quiet Placefans will soon be able to enjoy the horror movie franchise in another format with the October release ofA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadfast approaching. The video game will bring theA Quiet Placeworld to player’s homes, but beyond the setting, doesA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadhave any connection to the existing movie franchise?
A Quiet Place: The Road Aheadis a first-person survival horror gamefrom Saber Interactive, the developer behind other movie-to-game adaptationsWorld War ZandEvil Dead: The Game.As fans of the movies will know,A Quiet Placeexplores what happens when Earth is overrun by alien monsters that have a supernatural sense of hearing that allows them to hunt for prey purely by sound. This forces humanity to exist silently lest they risk their lives. This tension is dialed up for the video game as players will need to progress through the world whilst also avoiding things like treading on broken glass or opening a door too loudly. In their creation ofA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadit’s clear the developers have studied the movie franchise closely to provide a game that fits seamlessly into the overall franchise.
There have beenthree movies in theA Quiet Placefranchiseto date, all taking place at different points in the timeline. Chronologically, things begin with the most recent movie,A Quiet Place: Day One, which explores what happens on the first day the monsters arrive on Earth, and the four days afterward.A Quiet PlaceandA Quiet Place Part IIoccur between Day 472 and 477 of the alien invasion, showing a time when the world has become truly apocalyptic thanks to the new and silent status quo.
It’s been confirmed thatA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadwill also jump around the timeline. The trailer for the game shows scenes taking place prior to the invasion as well as on Day 1, which will allow audiences to get to know the protagonist and fellow characters before the monster’s arrival. It appears most of the action inA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadwill take place on Day 105, which is closer to the dystopian world shown in the originalA Quiet Placemovies. With that being said,A Quiet Place: The Road Aheadtakes place over 300 days beforeA Quiet PlaceandA Quiet Place Part II, so it seems this game will not be a sequel to those films. However, the upcoming game is confirmed to be set in Upstate New York, which is where the movie franchise also takes place, so some of the locations will no doubt be familiar to fans.
How to View A Quiet Place Franchise In Order
TheA Quiet Placefranchise has expanded significantly since its debut in 2018, spawning three movies and now a video game. With each project jumping around the timeline of the apocalyptic world, those wanting towatch (and play) theA Quiet Placefranchise in ordercan do so with the following structure:
It should be noted that at this point it’s unclear how far into the timelineA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadwill go, but chronologically it will act as something of a prequel to the original two movies, while also serving asa sequel toA Quiet Place: Day One.
Saber Interactive’sA Quiet Placegame introduces a new protagonist to players. Alex Taylor (voiced by Anairis Quinones) is introduced as a college student with a love of music and sound engineering, which is, naturally, at odds with her new silent surroundings. However, it will be interesting to see whether Alex’s audio engineering skills give her new weapons to use in the post-apocalypse, in a similar way that Regan Abbott was able to design a weapon with her hearing aids in the movie franchise. Alex is also an asthmatic which willfactor into the gameplay ofA Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, requiring players to get Alex to her inhaler before her coughing can alert nearby monsters.
Players will also meet Alex’s father, Kenneth (Jason Hightower), and her boyfriend, Martin (Aleks Le), as well as Martin’s parents, Laura (Catherine Cavadini) and Robert (David Kaye). This introduces another pickle for Alex as it’s been revealed in trailers forA Quiet Place: The Road Aheadthat she is pregnant with Martin’s child. This puts a ticking time bomb on Alex in the same way asEvelyn (Emily Blunt) inA Quiet Place, forcing her to prepare herself to survive in a silent world with a crying baby.
It’s been kept under wraps whether Alex will encounter any of the characters from the film franchise. However, given the time period the game takes place in, and the fact it is set in Upstate New York, there’s always the possibility that a character from theA Quiet Placefilms may appear for a cameo.
A Quiet Place: The Road Aheadis scheduled to be released on July 14, 2025.
