Summary

The first few episodes ofAgatha All Alonghave gotten off to a solid start, thanks in no small part to the show’s seeming willingness to take steps that no other movie or series in the MCU has really taken. By and large, the bad guys and the designated “red shirts” tend to be the only ones who are ever put in mortal danger. The heroes and the good guys can get injured but they’re almost always off limits when it comes to them possibly dying. There have been some notable exceptions here and there. It’s why the death of Natasha Romanoff hit so hard and felt real. But the latest Disney+ series has seemingly already killed off one of its biggest fan favorites.

Perhaps the audience ofAgatha All Alongshould have known that someone would die pretty early on. After all, this show goes in several different directions than other MCU programs. With the witches and magic and some spooky beings already being featured, the show seems to exist for now, in its own little corner of the MCU. Even if knowing this darker setting could lead to a death, or even more than one death, when Mrs. Hart (aka Sharon Davis) kicked the bucketat the end of Episode 3, more than a few viewers were surprised. And there were plenty who where heartbroken their favorite quirky character is already off the show. But that begs the question, is she really dead? Or isAgatha All Alongthrowing a misdirect out there?

Debra Jo Rupp in Agatha All Along Cropped

There are very distinct anddifferent waysAgatha All Alongcould gowith the death of the beloved Mrs. Hart. The first is that this isn’t a trick at all. Certainly, having a main character die is always going to have a little extra “oomph” when it comes to getting the audience emotionally invested. It also shows that the characters are in real mortal danger. The threats offered up by The Witches Road need to look authentic. They need to look like the puzzles have something behind them instead of just tricks. And until someone died, they did just look mostly like comic relief more than anything else.

The women all got puffy faces and they saw some things they didn’t want to see, but the first house they went into on this road that was supposed to be so dangerous and scary that no one wants to go on it, didn’t exactlydeliver a message that people have diedthere before. Even if the group supposedly got past the puzzle with just seconds to spare, someone not surviving shows that they were in real danger all along. Until then, even one of the witches might have been tricking everyone else, but that seems to be off the table now.

The Misdirect As A Possible Problem

That the death of Sharon Davis orMrs. Hart forWandavisionwatchersadds some heft to a show that wants to be equal parts horror trope and comedy is a strong argument for it not being a trick. It could even set the stage for audiences to wonder if their next favorite character could be the next to die. It certainly would be interesting if a different character fell by the wayside in one of the next trials. While it’s almost a guarantee that Teen and Agatha are going to survive all the way to the end, there can still be some fun attempts by those watching the show to try and figure out who might be next.

For those reasons, despite the fact that Mrs. Hart is a fan favorite thanks to her quirky personality, fans of the show probably shouldn’t want her death to be a misdirect. There’s the added bonus that her being caught up in this to the degree where she passes away makesher involvement in the MCUthat much more tragic. She was just a woman who got trapped by Wanda in her loop and then lured to her death by Agatha. Several MCU movies have focused on the bystander getting caught in the action, but this series showed it is happening in real-time.

One Fun Way The Misdirect Could Work

While the show doing a “just kidding, she’s not really dead” twist could actually make things worse, there is one way they could pull it off that could be very appealing. There have been a lot of whispers and rumors that one of theAgatha All Alongcharactersis an agent of Mephisto. Having that agent be Mrs. Hart seems so perfect viewers should hope its true.

Maybe she’s not an unwitting pawn after all. Maybe, like Agatha, she’s been pretending from the very beginning that she was locked into the character Wanda made. If there was one person in town just pretending and playing along, why not two?

There’s been no confirmation of Mephisto’s involvement other than mention.

Or, maybe she’s not anagent of Mephisto after all. What is essentially theMCU’s version of the devilcan almost surely take the form of regular people. Blend in, to work his deals and see his will done. It could be a big twist should Mrs. Hart turn out to be so bumbling because it’s an act. That would seem like the best of both worlds and a twist that few saw coming, at least at the start ofAgatha All Along.
