A famous Disney voice actor is joining the cast of DCU’sSuperman. James Gunn reportedly hired him for an undisclosed role. Alan Tudyk ispart of Gunn’s Superman crew. However, there’s no detail about the character he portrays in the anticipated superhero flick. Tudyk is not new in the DC Universe (DCU),Deadlinereported. The voice actor voices Batman’s enemy, Doctor Phosphorus, in Gunn’s upcoming Max animated series,Creature Commandos. He alsovoices supervillain Clayfacein the animatedHarley Quinnseries. Tudyk jokingly responded to the report of hisSupermancasting onThreads. The versatile talent previously heaped praises on Gunn’s work for Creature Commandos. “When I read it, it was the best thing I had read in so long, and it was moving,” Tudyk toldColliderat Fan Expo Boston 2024. “And that is what James Gunn does so well. I can’t wait for people to see it. I’ve now seen some of it and it looks really great.” He also commended Gunn’s talent at telling stories and likened him to screenwriter and director Joss Whedon, whom he worked with in multiple movies, includingFirefly, Serenity,andDollhouse. “[James'] writing, guys, it’s so good. It’s so good. I’m personally, I realized I’m the perfect audience for him. He does that thing that Joss Whedon did so well where it is… There’s humor in everything,” Tudyk shared.
Gunn confirmed that they wrapped up filmingSupermanin July. At the time, there were no words about Tudyk being part of the project, as his casting had just leaked. Gunn shared the news onInstagram, and he praised the people who had worked with him on the project. “God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life,” he wrote in the caption, alongside a snap of the cast and crew members. “Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has beenSuperman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set - and for that I am forever grateful,” he added.
Tudyk is popular for his voice projects for Disney, including King Candy forWreck-It Ralph(2012) and Duke of Weselton forFrozen(2013). He also voiced the sarcastic Imperial droid K-2SO inRogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, besides that, he also has a slew of experience in front of the camera. Tudyk is actually a versatile actor who starred in numerous films. He was first recognized in Whedon’s hit filmFirefly,where he portrayed Wash, whom the audience loved for his smart and joking remarks. Tudyk is good at pulling off comedic and dramatic roles, thanks to his natural humor and charm. So, whatever role he plays in Gunn’sSuperman, there is no doubt that he will succeed.
