Summary

After 6 years in serialization,Gege Akutami’sJujutsu Kaisenmanga has finally come to an end. This was quite evidently one of the biggest and most influential shōnen action series of the past few years, and it will be fondly remembered for the most part. But the truth is that its ending got a mixed reception from fans and longtime readers, for several controversial reasons.

One of them is the surprising number of characters who received somewhat underwhelming resolutions to their stories. Whether it’s because their ending was disappointing or because they completely disappeared from the manga during its final arcs, the followingJujutsu Kaisencharacters are some of the most egregious examples of this unfortunate occurrence.

Toge Inumaki loses his arm after the Shibuya Incident.

10Toge Inumaki

He Used To Be One Of The Main Characters But Did Almost Nothing At The End

Toge Inumakiwas one of Yuta’s classmates and was supposed to be one of the main characters of the series. Even though this was later changed when the manga shifted its focus to Itadori and his friends, Inumaki still remained an important figure in the story, mostly thanks to his unique cursed technique, Cursed Speech.

But, as the manga kept going, Inumaki became less and less relevant, to the point that he almost disappeared from the story. After he lost one of his arms during Sukuna’s rampage in Shibuya, he really didn’t do much else, aside from recording himself saying “Don’t Move” on a recorderso Yuta could use it against the King of Curses in the final battle. After Sukuna’s defeat, Inumaki just returned to his normal life.

Kashimo defeats Panda.

9Panda

He Lost His Father And His Siblings. Now What?

There’s no denying thatPandais one of the most fascinating characters inJujutsu Kaisen. He’s a mutated cursed corpse created by Principal Yaga who holds three different cores within his body, each one of them with its own abilities. Coupled with his adorable design and charming personality,it’s clear why he was one of the original main characters of the series.

Unlike Inumaki, Panda did maintain an active role after the Shibuya Incident, but he certainly left a lot to be desired. First, his father was executed by the Jujutsu higher-ups, but, aside from briefly mourning his death, Panda never really acted on this loss. On top of that, his two cores were obliterated by Kashimo, and he never even got to show off the strength of his sister’s Triceratops Mode, which was disappointing for readers who waited a long time to witness this transformation. After this crushing defeat, Panda could be seen hanging around the other characters in a smaller form, but he didn’t do much.

Uraume vs Hikari in the manga.

8Uraume

Wait, Why Did They Even Follow Sukuna In The First Place?

Sukuna’s most loyal subordinate,Uraume, was also one of the most powerful incarnated sorcerers in the series, mainly thanks to their cursed technique, Ice Formation, which lets them use freezing cryokinetic powers. However, despite fulfilling a role as important as Sukuna’s second in command, Uraume was completely underused during the final chapters.

They were set to have a climactic final encounter against Kinji Hakari while the rest of the heroes fought their master. Unfortunately, as exciting as this sounded, most of this battle happened off-screen. While Uraume did appear in the final chapter, going to the afterlife alongside Sukuna, this was far from satisfying, as their backstory and motivations were never properly established.

Hakari and Kirara go back to school during the final chapter.

7Kinji Hakari

His Epic Final Battle Was Not Even Shown

Early on in the manga,Kinji Hakariwas established as one of the most talented and strongest sorcerers. When this suspended student later made his debut, he certainly did not disappoint as he took part in some of the most mind-blowing and bizarre fights in the series, thanks to his Pachinko-themed Domain Expansion.

Hakari also had a crucial role during the final battle, as he separated Sukuna from his subordinate, Uraume. This unseen encounter was extremely disappointing, since most readers were expecting to see him showing off his unique powers once again. He didn’t even get to defeat them, since Uraume killed themselves after Sukuna’s death. In the final chapter, it is suddenly revealed that Hakari and Kirara will resume their studies at Jujutsu Tech, which felt like a rushed development.

Kashimo unleashes his Mythical Beast Amber technique.

6Hajime Kashimo

Went From A Huge Threat To Fodder For Sukuna

Hajima Kashimowas an incarnated sorcerer from 400 years in the past who wielded electric cursed energy. He quickly demonstrated how incredibly powerful he was as he defeated countless players of the Culling Game, including Panda. After all, Kashima had one goal in mind: to fight Ryomen Sukuna himself.

Hakari successfully convinced Kashimo to fight on their side, which resulted in his immediate deployment against Sukuna during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. He even used his most dangerous technique, named Mythical Beast Amber, but none of this was enough to defeat the King of Curses, who quickly disposed of him with no problem. Despite their intriguing final exchange about strength, the fact that Kashimo was ultimately used as fodder to show off the power of Sukuna was quite anticlimactic.

Miguel activates his Prayer Song technique.

5Miguel Oduol

Kenya’s Most Powerful Sorcerer Quietly Returned To His Home Country

The existence ofMiguel Oduolintroduced a very interesting concept toJujutsu Kaisen: the prospect thatthere are sorcerers in other countries that are almost as powerful as Satoru Gojoand who have also affected the societies of their respective homelands. However, this brilliant concept was never fully explored by the time the manga ended, not to mention that not much was shown about Yuta’s training in Africa.

While Miguel did get the chance to show off his impressive abilities during the final fight against Sukuna, he was transported away when things got too tricky, only to be seen later returning to Kenya like normal. That’s it? Miguel is an extremely strong sorcerer, so it would’ve been fascinating to see what type of curses and sorcerers he has to deal with in his country, and how his experiences in Japan affected him.

Yuki fights Kenjaku with her technique.

4Yuki Tsukumo

The Strongest Female Sorcerer Was Unceremoniously Killed Off

As the only female special grade sorcerer and Aoi Todo’s mentor, fans were waiting forYuki Tsukumoto show off her full abilities for a good number of years. She eventually got the chance to do so in an intense battle against Kenjaku and, with her powerful techniques and bombastic personality, she had the potential to become one of the most popular characters in the series.

However, Yuki sadly couldn’t survive her encounter with one of the main antagonists, and she was suddenly killed when Kenjaku used an anti-gravity technique out of nowhere. This was disappointing because, after so many years of buildup, Yuki was killed off in the blink of an eye, which lessened the impact of her entire character.

Nobara shows off her new eyepatch.

3Nobara Kugisaki

Gege Akutami’s handling ofNobara Kugisaki’scharacter was divisive. While she was introduced as the main female character in the series and quickly proved to be a likable friend and a strong sorcerer, she departed the story after her lethal encounter with Mahito during the Shibuya Incident.

Over the course of many years, fans were left wondering if Nobara was actually dead or not. Eventually, she reappeared in the story in Chapter 267, where she helped Itadori finish off Sukuna with her Resonance technique. As epic as this moment was, the manga ended just 4 chapters later, and Nobara was absent during most of its duration. She was finally reintroduced and resumed her normal life, without a clear resolution to her story, if it can even be considered that she had one in the first place.

Kenjaku succesfully defeats Yuki.

2Kenjaku

One Of The Main Antagonists Didn’t Even Get A Proper Send-Off

The evil sorcererKenjakuhad a personal conflict with two of the main characters of the series: Satoru Gojo, because he possessed the body of his best friend and sealed him within the Prison Realm, and Yuji Itadori, because he possessed the woman that would become his mother in order to create the perfect vessel for Sukuna.

Despite these intense personal quarrels, neither Gojo nor Itadori ever got the chance to fight or even interact with Kenjakubefore he was abruptly killed by Yuta. There’s no denying that his comedic final battle with Fumihiko Takaba was one of the most brilliant moments in the entire manga, but it’s quite unfortunate that not much about Kenjaku was shown after his crucial defeat. Takaba is later seen preparing a new comedy routine with a man that closely resembles Geto. Is this supposed to be some form of Kenjaku?

Satoru Gojo fires Hollow Purple at 100% at Sukuna.

1Satoru Gojo

He Was Successfully Unsealed, Only To Die A Few Chapters Later

To this day,Satoru Gojo’sdeath is one of the most divisive and controversial moments in all ofJujutsu Kaisen. On paper, this is an interesting idea, since he’s such an undeniably powerful character that his death left a huge void in Jujutsu society, and Sukuna would have taken over, if it wasn’t for Gojo’s friends and allies.

The problem is that Gojo was sealed inside the Prison Realm by Kenjaku and thus, was completely absent from the story for almost 140 chapters. Unlike Nobara, Gojo was killed just a few chapters after his reintroduction. The fight itself was exciting – one of the best in the series – but Sukuna’s victory felt cheap and undeserved.

Gojo did have a huge impact on Itadori, who will carry on his legacy, but that was not enough for such a beloved icon. Gojo was a really entertaining and complex character, so it’s a real shame that he was written off from the manga in such an underwhelming way.
