This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Last Arc.
Summary
Jujutsu Kaisenended with chapter 271, and it goes without saying that the opinion among the fans on the ending was split. Fans got to see the story conclude properly, and although certain plot points were rushed incredibly and others were completely abandoned, the author did manage to drop a somewhat reasonably acceptable ending. This is especially the case when one considers the fact that Gege was struggling terribly with his health and even had surgery earlier this year.
Regardless, fans expected the ending of JJK to be incredibly satisfying, especially in regards to Sukuna. Of course, fans are not entirely happy with Sukuna’s ending in the manga either. Those who do not know, Sukuna’s last fingerwas kept as a talisman by Yuji. But, fans wonder whether this ending seesJJKcome a full circle without things having changed, given that Sukuna’s finger was a big threat at the beginning of the series, and it is still active at the end. That is exactly what is going to be discussed here.
Sukuna’s Fingers And How They Caused Trouble In Jujutsu Kaisen
At the beginning ofJJK, Sukuna’s fingers were revealed to be a massive source of problems. Essentially, it was made clear to the fans that Sukuna, the strongest sorcerer from the Heian era, had turned himself into a cursed object by splitting himself up into his 20 fingers. These 20 fingers had survived the test of time, given that they were indestructible in many ways. Because of that, Sukuna was looking to reincarnate in one way or another, which is why these fingers were very dangerous. Sukuna’s fingers were so strong that they attracted curses, and this is why at the beginning of the series, curses ran rampant wherever Sukuna’s finger was. As fans know, Yuji ended up consuming Sukuna’s finger, and at that point, he was even able to suppress him, due to a mysterious ability that he possessed.
This boy…he can actively suppress me! – Sukuna
That said, other powerful individuals also got access to Sukuna’s fingers, making them strong enough as well. The goal then for the Sorcerers was for Yuji to eat all the fingers and then Gojo to demolish the King. Of course, all this could have been avoided had Yuji simply been executed, but Gojo absolutely did not want that.
Sukuna’s fingers kept causing issues inJujutsu Kaisen. This is especially true when Yuji started eating more fingers and his control over the King of Curses started weakening. In Shibuya, Sukuna wreaked havocand massacred many people. This wasn’t even the worst part. After Sukuna transferred to Megumi’s body, things got even worse and he was essentially able to return to full power. At this point, Sukuna was almost impossible to stop, given that he consumed the remaining fingers, apart from the last one, which was kept sealed away from the King.
How Sukuna’s Last Finger Became A Talisman
Sukuna Lost All His Powers In The Fight Against Yuji
Fans who read the ending ofJujutsu Kaisenmight be confused as to what exactly happened with Sukuna’s fingers. After all, at the end of the series, there was one more finger left, just like at the beginning of the series, which confused a lot of the readers. In fact, many fans have even been calling it bad writing, given that it felt to them that things had come a full circle and nothing really changed in the entire story. However, this isn’t exactly what happened at the end ofJJK. Sukuna ate 19 fingers and the last one was kept away from him. As seen towards the end of the fight, this finger was kept in a Shrine, where Nobara used it to deal a deadly blow to the King of Curses using Resonance. After Yuji destroyed Sukuna using the soul-damaging punches, Sukuna’s other fingers, which had essentially given him strength, ceased to exist.
The last finger that was kept with Nobara still existed, but the amount of energy that this finger held was not enough to see Sukuna return to life. Essentially, this finger is not a threat anymore, as has been clarified in JJK. At the very least, that is what Yuji and his friends seem to think.
Don’t worry, that finger isn’t dangerous anymore. – Yuji Itadori
Fans should also keep in mind thatJJKchapter 271, which was the last chamber of the series, saw Yuji toss the finger. This finger, which now acts as a talisman, found its way to a similar location to where it was seen in the first arc. As mentioned by Yuji himself, the finger isn’t dangerous anymore, andSukuna cannot be resurrected using this finger at all, even if someone consumes it. This essentially means that Sukuna cannot come back to life as things stand, unless something extraordinary is done to bring the remnant of his powers back. As such, this is the end of the road for Sukuna, and despite the finger existing, he cannot return. As Yuji put it, this finger only serves as a talisman now and that is precisely why he left it there, for symbolic reasons, and because it made for a good end.
Is Sukuna’s Last Finger Still Dangerous?
Sukuna’s Last Finger Cannot Threaten Anyone
Sukuna cannot reincarnate using the last fingerthat still exists in the world ofJJK. If that were to be the case, then, Yuji would most certainly have not tossed this finger. Sukuna’s finger is non-lethal now, and that essentially means that no threat is posed by the king of curses in the story anymore. That said, Sukuna could potentially return in the series in other ways, if JJK were to ever continue. Gege certainly hinted at there being a possible chance for him to return. When Sukuna spoke to Mahito, he mentioned that if there were another chance, he would like to take a different path.
Of course, this clearly doesn’t mean that Sukuna knows that he will return or that he plans to resurrect in some way. But, it simply means that ifSukuna were to ever be reincarnated through some other way, then he would give love a chance and actually be one of the good guys, or at least attempt to be. Sukuna tried to fight using his Jujutsu for himself, but, in the end, it saw him lose. Now, Sukuna seems to have had a change of heart, and even the evil king of curses has now decided to walk a completely different path.
Unfortunately, whether Sukuna will get a chance to actually walk the good pathor not remains to be seen. Fans will have to wait to see ifJJKcontinues at some point later down the line to see whether Sukuna will get his opportunity to return once again or not.
