This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shinjuku Showdown Arc.

Summary

Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, was the biggest antagonist in the entirety ofJujutsu Kaisen. Fans saw this monstrously powerful individual fight to the best of his abilities in Shinjuku Showdown, and he definitely lived up to his title of the strongest. He took down one sorcerer after another, but, despite everything, Sukuna was destined to lose, because he was a villain after all and standing in the path of the protagonist, Yuji.

As expected, Sukuna fell at the hands of Yuji in the end, and although he stuck to his words even when Yuji offered him a chance, fans saw him have a change of heart later. Clearly, there is room for more character development for Sukuna ifJJKever potentially continues.

Sukuna’s Death In Jujutsu Kaisen Came At The End

The Shinjuku Showdown arc, which was the last arc ofJJK, was absolutely massive for Sukuna. In this arc, Sukuna fought the strongest modern sorcerer, Gojo Satoru, and showed him his level of skill. Even though Gojo and Sukuna were equally matched, in the end, Sukuna was the victor, and this was thanks to him having Megumi’s 10 Shadows Technique on top of his own Shrine. Thanks to Mahoraga, Sukuna was able to adapt to Gojo’s Infinity and cut right through it, dealing a deadly blow to the strongest modern sorcerer. With Gojo’s death, Sukuna was the sole strongest on the battlefield, and he was then challenged by the up-and-coming sorcerers.

It is safe to say that the sorcerers did more than just well in this battle. Despite Sukuna being at the peak of his powers following the resumption of his suspended transformation, the sorcerers pushed him back to quite an extent. It is clear to see that Sukuna was the star of the show, and that he gradually grew in terms of power in this arc ofJJK. Not only did Yuji show the skill to utilize advanced powers, such as reverse cursed technique and even blood manipulation at a basic level, but he also went on to hit multiple black flashes, which, in turn, led to the awakening of his latent powers of the Shrine cursed technique.

That’s right, Sukuna! I can kill you! – Yuji Itadori

With the awakening of the Shrine,Yuji then managed to hold his own against Sukuna in battle, and with the help that he got, it became possible for him to actually whittle down the defenses of Sukuna. At the end of things, Yuji opened his domain, and it is inside this domain things were finally settled.

Much to the surprise of the fans, Yuji tried to befriend Sukuna even after seeing him kill everyone around him. Yet, Sukuna did not budge from his ideology. Having been left with no choice, Yuji fought him, and with a powerful Sure Hit Dismantle, followed by his ultimate Black Flash, he was able to defeat Sukuna in combat. Megumi was saved and Sukuna was ripped from his body, only to disintegrate while cursing Yuji Itadori.

Sukuna Wanted To Try A Different Path At The Very End

Although Sukuna rejected Yuji’s helping hand right before he died, in the last chapter ofJJK, fans were surprised to see him actually have a change of heart. Fans saw Sukuna speak with Mahito in a strange plane of existence between life and death, and at this point, he shockingly admitted that he wasn’t born evil after all.

However, it was at this point that Sukuna finally revealed that he was the way he was because of being discarded and having grown up unloved. At the end of things, Sukuna was a lonely man as well, and it was because of his upbringing that he turned out the way he was. Then, Sukuna went on to admit that if there was a second chance, he would love to take a different path and give love a shot. The meaning of love was one of the biggest plot points inJujutsu Kaisen. Gojo, the strongest modern sorcerer, knew the solitude that came with being the strongest.

Naturally, I lost after all! – Sukuna

However, he was surrounded by people who loved them, and he wanted to convey this to Sukuna as well. While Gojo failed to get him to understand this, Yuji succeeded. Finally,Sukuna understood the meaning of love, and he clearly stated that if he got another chance, he would take a completely different path. Mahito was stunned upon hearing these words, but Sukuna said that he had grown soft because he lost the battle with Yuji after all.

This was a fitting end for the story of the King of Curses, and fans came to love it as well. However, what the fans were standing by was the fact that there was no continuation of the story from here onwards. IfJJKwere to continue, seeing Sukuna have a change of heart and grow as a character would certainly be phenomenal for the story itself. Unfortunately, the way JJK ended, this is likely never going to happen.

Why Sukuna Should Return In Any Potential Sequel

Sukuna’s Growth Would Be Highlighted To Perfection In JJK Part 2

As things stand, there is no sequel forJJKannounced. But, what fans know is thatthe author of the story, Gege Akutami, certainly wants to continue working in Jump in the future. Most likely, Gege wants to write a completely new story and prove his skills as a mangaka once again. But, as far as fans know, he could potentially start a continuation of JJK as well. Or, there could be a one-shot or a spin-off manga ofJJKin the future. If that were to ever happen, fans would absolutely love to see Sukuna return. Fans know that there is one last finger of Sukuna remaining, and even though it was established in the story that he cannot come back to life using just that one finger, the author can certainly conjure up a way, or a completely new antagonist could be a dead set on bringing back the king of curses.

In any potential sequel ofJJK, Sukuna cannot be the villain, and there would have to bean even greater threat than Sukunain terms of strength. This is why if Sukuna does return, he would then have to fight alongside the sorcerers, and that is exactly what would make for an absolutely phenomenal story.

Of course, this certainly does sound like fantasy to many fans, but one absolutely cannot deny that this would be incredible to witness in the story. Hopefully, the author does give fans a movie, or a one-shot sequel where the King of Curses gets a chance to redeem himself as a mighty sorcerer and show that he has truly had a change of heart and is now going in the right direction.

For now, fans do not know anything about a continuation ofJJKin any form. Any news coming aboutJJK’scontinuation will be revealed on Jump Festa, which is whereJJKwill most likely get its own stage. At this point, fans need to sit back patiently and wait for more news.
