It has been confirmed that the late Lance Riddick will be replaced as the voice of Sylens inLEGO Horizon Adventures. Sylens was a major character in the two games that inspiredLEGO Horizon Adventures, serving as a reluctant and mysterious ally to Aloy while enacting his own agenda from behind the scenes. Part of what made him such a compelling character to many was Lance Riddick’s performance, as he gave Sylens a cerebral and sometimes sinister tone that left gamers (and Aloy) questioning whether they should trust him as he helped uncover the many mysteries within the world ofHorizon.
Sadly,Lance Riddick passed away in March 2023from coronary artery disease and atherosclerotic heart disease at age 60. Fans of his performances in both theHorizongames andDestiny 2paid tribute to Riddick through special in-game events and commemorative artwork, and Guerrilla Games included their own homage to him in theHorizon Forbidden West: Burning ShoresDLC. Keith David was eventually cast to replace Riddick as Commander Zavala inDestiny 2, but how Guerrilla Games would handle Sylens moving forward has remained a mystery.
Now that question is answered, at least when it comes tothe upcomingLEGO Horizon Adventures. Guerrilla Games Senior World Artist Lucas Bolt recently confirmed toIGNthat Sylens would be getting a new voice actor forLEGO Horizon Adventures, but he didn’t reveal exactly who would be taking over the beloved role. Bolt went on to say that the crew behind theHorizongames still misses Lance Riddick, who “wonderfully portrayed the essential character of Sylens inHorizon Zero DawnandForbidden West.”
Sylens Is Getting a New Actor in LEGO Horizon Adventures
Lance Riddick’s passing made the recasting of Sylens inevitable given the character’s importance to the ongoingHorizonstoryline, but some players likely expected Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo to simply recycle dialogue from previous games forLEGO Horizon Adventures, which retells the story ofthe originalHorizon Zero Dawnin the family-friendly style of Traveler’s Tales’LEGOtitles. OtherHorizoncast members like Ashly Burch (Aloy), JB Blanc (Rost), John Macmillan (Varl) and John Hopkins (Erend) are reprising their roles inLEGO Horizon Adventures.
Lance Riddick’s performance as Sylens inHorizon Zero DawnandHorizon Forbidden Westwill be a tough act to follow for many fans. It isn’t clear yet if Sylens’ new voice actor inLEGO Horizon Adventureswill take over the role full-time in future games, but it is certainly a possibility.
