Hype forMarvel Rivalshas been circulating since the superhero-themed shooter was announced in March. Beta testing for the game lasted from July 23 to August 5 for PC and console, where players testedMarvel Rivals’ long roster of playable characters. However, a certain character was not available during play testing, but rumors are spreading which suggest they’ll be introduced to the game sometime soon.
If these leaks are accurate, the character’s abilities may disrupt the meta established inMarvel Rivalsduring alphaand beta testing. This is not the first time playable characters forMarvel Rivalshave been leaked. However, this new addition was showcased to the public through leaked artwork rather than the datamining efforts previously used to uncover characters.
What is Known About Marvel Rivals' Roster
Unlike other games in Marvel’s roster,Marvel Rivalspulls characters from across the franchise’s universe rather than focusing specifically on characters with certain skills, likeMystic Mayhem’s roster of spellcasters. Therefore,Marvel Rivals’ character rosterof twenty-six playable characters expected on launch day includes quite a bit of variety. From strongholds of the Avengers like Captain America and Iron Man, villains like Loki and Namor, X-Men characters like Storm and Magneto, and niche entries like Luna Snow, the game caters to a wide audience.
Marvel Rivals’ roster of characters has received tweeks and new designs inspired not just by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but by various runs in Marvel Comics. For example,Marvel Rivals’adaptation of Earth-14512’s Peni Parkerlooks much older than her SonySpider-Versecounterpart.
This makes leaked artwork of a character not yet confirmed to be onMarvel Rivals’ roster plausible, despite thegame not releasing until December. The leak is courtesy of Miller Ross, who has correctly predicted and leaked several characters inMarvel Rivalspreviously.
Moon Knight May Be Heading to Marvel Rivals
Moon Knight’s return to public consciousness has been a bit recent in comparison to other Marvel heroes. While Moon Knight has appeared in mainline Marvel game titles in the past, the character received a resurgence in popularity following Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of the character in the2022Moon KnightDisney+ series. This live action portrayal has fans scrambling for more Moon Knight content, perhaps in a video game.
The aforementioned leaked artwork shows Moon Knight hidden by his iconic white hood, though his appearance is a tad more grim than in the MCU TV series. Information about Moon Knight’s kit was also uncovered during a datamine. Separating himself from other kits inMarvel Rivals,Moon Knight will providetechnical boosts and counters to his teammates. Some of the character’s combat moves include the ability to stun and reveal enemies. One move, supposedly called Lunakinesis, launches crescent darts that bounce between enemies. The similarly named Lunar Chain allegedly acts as a grappling hook for extra mobility. This acts as a stark contrast from brute power characters in the game like Hulk and Thor.
Of course, all of this information is alleged and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt. NetEase Games and Marvel Entertainment have yet to confirm Moon Knight’s addition toMarvel Rivals. However, leaks forMarvel Rivalshave proved to be truein the past with Psylockeand Captain America both receiving announcements from NetEase post leaks.
How Moon Knight May Be Introduced to Marvel Rivals
If Moon Knight’s inclusion inMarvel Rivalsis true, speculation about other characters that might be included in the shooter should occur. New additions toMarvel Rivalsmaygo the route ofValorant, which adds one new agent to the Valorant protocol every other act. However, the game could also add multiple new heroes per update. More regular additions would be unsurprising, as plenty of characters have been leaked so far, with some yet to be confirmed.
Moon Knight may or may not bepart ofMarvel Rivals’ roster by the time the game’s December 6 release date rolls around. Nevertheless, fans should be hopeful for the mysterious knight inMarvel Rivals’s updates, especially after the character was seemingly teased at the end of Psylocke’s official reveal.
