Summary

Atlus has launched a new update forMetaphor: ReFantazio, fixing some issues and adding new options related to the dash effect. Since its release,Metaphor: ReFantaziohas received timely updates. None of the updates drastically change the game experience, but they still improve certain aspects of the JRPG that have captivated the industry.

Metaphor: ReFantaziois the first original release from Studio Zero, a subsidiary led by Katsura Hashino, director of multiple games in thePersonaseries. It’s a new IP that follows the formula of other Atlus RPGs but presents an entirely new setting and universe. Despite the risk of launching a new IP nowadays, Atlus has been breaking records in 2024 and doesn’t show signs of slowing down. On its release day,Metaphor: ReFantaziosold one million units, surpassing a record previously set byPersona 3 Reload, which was released in January this year and sold one million units within three days of launch.

The 1.09 update forMetaphor: ReFantazioadds a new option and fixes several bugs, but is currently only available for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The update for the Steam and Windows version will arrive soon. This new patch allows players to disable the motion blur animation when dashing, which is especially helpful for players with motion sickness. The patch also addresses specific issues, like a quest in the Catacombs and a bug that blocks progression when enemies with debuffs perform particular actions. The patch notes mention that other minor bugs have also been fixed. Atlus will likely continue rolling out updates, especially considering it’s beenapplying patches toMetaphor: ReFantaziosince its demo release.

Although the game has been critically and publicly acclaimed, some players have complained about several technical issues in the PC version ofMetaphor: ReFantazio. Taking matters into their own hands, developer Lyall created somemods forMetaphor: ReFantazio, making the game compatible with various resolutions and aspect ratios, including ultra-wide monitor support. The mod also removes the 60fps frame rate cap and adds an automatic skip for the intro cinematic. Officially, Atlus hasn’t yet released an update that matches the additions of the mod.

While Studio Zero’s team will probably fine-tuneMetaphor: ReFantazio’sgameplay as much as possible, directorHashino is already working on his next project, as he shared with Famitsu. Hashino didn’t give any hints about this new project but commented that his approach always prioritizes the happiness of players and the company. ConsideringMetaphor: ReFantazio’ssuccess, it’s highly likely that Atlus will greenlight any upcoming project from Studio Zero, whether that’s a sequel to the JRPG or even a new title.
