Player Mistakes
Back to All Characters
Xilonen, the latest 5-star character to join theGenshin Impactroster, brings a unique blend of healing, DPS, and support capabilities to the table. She’s somewhat comparable toNoellein terms of versatility, but with massively amplified team support utility. Xilonen can enter a unique rollerblade state through her Nightsoul Blessing to deal damage on the field, while simultaneously generating Source Samples that reduce enemy resistance to elements matching the Source Sample, allowing the team to deal more damage. Furthermore, depending on the team composition, Xilonen can either focus on dealing more damage or healing all allies with her Elemental Burst.
This unique combination positions her as a versatile character inGenshin Impact, capable of fulfilling multiple roles within a team composition. However, mastering her intricate kit and maximizing her potential requires a deep understanding of her abilities and how they interact with other characters. Here are some aspects of her kit players should pay extra attention to, while avoiding the mistakes below.
5Undervaluing Xilonen’s Utility
When players think of support characters, options like Kazuhaor even Furina typically come to mind, thanks to their significant contributions to specific team compositions. Geo characters, in this regard, are often less valued, as their support utility for increasing damage output has been somewhat limited, with the exception of characters likeZhongliwho can reduce enemy resistance. However, Xilonen surprisingly rivals Kazuha in her support benefits, making her a formidable option for various teams.
This is not only because she can reduce enemy elemental resistance through her Source Samples, but also because she is one of the few characters who can utilize the “Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City” artifact set, designed for off-field-oriented Natlan characters. Furthermore, her ability to heal the entire party while providing substantial support effectively frees up a team slot for another support character. This expands Furina’s viability in more team compositions and even allows for Kazuha to be used alongside Xilonen, creating further potential for teams that don’t rely on specificelemental reactions like Vaporizeor Electro-charged.
4Not Paying Attention to Xilonen’s Nightsoul Points
As a Natlan character, Xilonen’s kit revolves heavily around Nightsoul Points. From a support perspective, with at least two characters of different elements in your party, you’ll first need to use her Elemental Skill to generate Source Samples. However, before any Elemental RES shred is applied after the souce samples transform to different elements, her Nightsoul Points need to reach their maximum. Fortunately, she can generate Nightsoul Points independently thanks to her passive talent, which grants additional points for hitting enemies with normal or plunging attacks. This allows you to quickly reach the maximum. Simply using her Elemental Skill and switching out isn’t enough; ensure those Nightsoul Points are maxed out for optimal support.
From a DPS perspective, maintaining Nightsoul Points is equally crucial. Staying in the Nightsoul Blessing state grants bonus damage, but this state has a 9-second time limit. Therefore, players should refresh it frequently with her Elemental Skill, especially if they won’t be utilizing 2 or more Electro/Pyro/Cryo/Hydro units in the team to maintain Nightsoul. Thankfully, the cooldown on her Elemental Skill is quite short, allowing for near-constant uptime with minimal downtime.
3Not Paying Attention to Xilonen Team’s Elements
It’s not a new concept in Genshin Impact for team compositions to require different elements for optimal synergy, as much of the gameplay revolves around Elemental Reactions. However, in Xilonen’s case, paying attention to your team’s elemental makeup goes beyond just Elemental Reactions. It fundamentally determines whether she functions as a support/healer or a DPS unit.
Players intending to utilize Xilonen as a support must ensure they have at least two other characters from Electro, Pyro, Cryo, or Hydro in their party. This is essential to transform her Source Samples into different elements, granting the Elemental RES shred and enabling healing through her Elemental Burst. Without this variety, she’ll instead focus on boosting Normal/Plunging ATK DMG, making her an on-field DPS. It’s worth noting that Dendro and Anemo characters do not affect Source Samples and don’t count towards this elemental diversity requirement. While having two characters share the same element will still alter the Source Samples, their Elemental RES reduction effects won’t stack. In this regard, Xilonen’s team requirements are quite versatile and not as niche asNilou’s, for example, who necessitates specific Bloom compositions consisting of only Hydro and Dendro characters.
2Not Equipping Xilonen With The Right Artifacts
Similar to how Viridescent Venerer makes Anemo units excellent support characters, the “Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City” artifact set does the same for Natlan characters who function in a support role. The condition for activating its effect is relatively simple, requiring an elemental reaction triggered by the equipping character’s element – in Xilonen’s case, Crystallize. Upon triggering this reaction, both Geo characters and characters wielding the other element involved in the reaction receive a significant Elemental DMG bonus. This effectively allows for the buffing of multiple elements simultaneously, depending on the team composition.
Furthermore, this effect differs from Viridescent Venerer, and Xilonen’s inherent RES shred allows for less frequent application as it can also be triggered off-field, without the need for complex Swirl setups. Players should make good use of this artifact set on her unless they are building Xilonen for a DPS role, in which case “Obsidian Codex” becomes a viable alternative. It’s also crucial to remember that Xilonen scales with DEF, impacting both her damage output and healing capabilities. Therefore, prioritizing DEF in her build is essential for maximizing her potential.
1Not Using Xilonen For Exploration
Each Natlan character boasts a unique exploration mechanic tied to their tribe, be it enhanced climbing, sprinting, aerial travel, or water traversal. Xilonen, hailing from the Children of Echoes tribe, possesses the ability to traverse land with unparalleled ease, surpassing the utility of using a Tepetlisarius or the free-to-play option, Kachina.
However, Xilonen offers distinct advantages. Her unique and visually stunning animations make her ajoy to use in exploration teams. Activating her movement ability is also more convenient than transforming into Tepetlisarius. Furthermore, unlike Kachina, Xilonen provides excellent combat support, making her a valuable asset both in the overworld and during challenging encounters. This versatility allows players to seamlessly transitionbetween exploration and combatwithout needing to constantly swap characters.
