The first expansion DLC forMortal Kombat 1, Khaos Reigns, was recently released, and with it came three new fighters to the roster: Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot. All three play pivotal roles in Khaos Reigns’ narrative as Titan Havik attempts to plunge the multiverse into anarchy and chaos. Cyrax and Sektor showcase the Lin Kuei’s cybernetic developments in the form of new power armor designed to better combat Scorpion’s new Shirai Ryu clan. Meanwhile, Noob Saibot is more prominent than he has ever been before in previousMortal Kombatgames, asMortal Kombat 1Khaos Reigns’ secondary antagonist.

Noob Saibot Explained

Like so many iconicMortal Kombatfighters,Noob Saibot initially appeared as a secret characterfromMortal Kombat’s arcade games. He first appeared inMortal Kombat 2as a black silhouette of Sub-Zero’s ninja sprite. It wasn’t untilUltimate Mortal Kombat 3that Saibot appeared as an official fighter that could be selected instead of remaining as a secret. Eventually, it was revealed that Saibot was once the first Sub-Zero Bi-Han who was killed by Scorpion in the firstMortal Kombattournament. Bi-Han was later resurrected and turned into a wraith by the sorcerer Quan Chi in the Netherrealm to become Noob Saibot.

InMortal Kombat’s original timeline, Saibot would join the Brotherhood of Shadow, aiding in Shinnok’s and later Shao Khans’ machinations to control the realms. InMortal Kombat: Armageddon, Saibot led an attack on the Lin Kuei to wipe them out or transform its members into cybernetic demons, but was stopped by the demigod Taven. In the rebooted timeline of 2011’sMortal Kombat, Bi-Han is still slain by Scorpion and resurrected into Noob Saibot by Quan Chi, but is later defeated by Cyber Sub-Zero and Night Wolf.Noob Saibot briefly returned inMortal Kombat 11, aiding the Titan Kronika in hopes that she would create a new clan for him to lead.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Noob Saibot Drive for Lin Kuei Domination

To understand Khaos Reign’s Noob Saibot, players must first understandTitan Liu Kang’s Sub-Zero. In this timeline, Liu Kang designed the Lin Kuei to be defenders of Earthrealm instead of a clan of ninja assassins. Despite helping usher in a period of peace, Bi-Han Sub-Zero sought to make the Lin Kuei the most powerful force in Earthrealm and abandon helping the God of Fire and Thunder. To do this, Bi-Han let his father die, joined forces with General Shao’s rebellion on Outworld, and attempted to kill his brother Kuai Liang Scorpion. Bi-Han usurped control of the Lin Kuei while Scorpion and Smoke built the new Shirai Ryu clan to uphold Lin Kuei’s former objective of defending Earthrealm and confronting Bi-Han.

By Khaos Reigns, Bi-Han has supported Sektor’s power armor initiative and used them to attempt to assassinate Scorpion at his wedding to Harumi Shirai. Both Bi-Han and Sektor are captured, but Bi-Han follows Titan Havik into his universe after Havik’s forces attack Outworld and kidnap Geras. There, Bi-Han is quickly defeated and corrupted by Chaos to becomea new version of Noob Saibot. While Saibot was initially deployed as a member of the Brotherhood of Chaos, he was defeated by an alternate version of Tanya and later brought back to Liu Kang to have his mind restored.
