Summary
NetherRealm Studios released a new October 2024 update forMortal Kombat 1, addressing a number of issues with the game and a handful of specific characters. September was another big month forMortal Kombat 1as the popular fighting game released its Khaos Reigns expansion which brought back legacy characters like Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor, while also continuing the story with a new campaign.
Alongside the paid expansion was a free update for all players which brought backAnimalities toMortal Kombat 1, fatalities that turn each character into an animal before violently finishing off their opponent in unique ways. Oddly enough, the expansion and update don’t add any additional Kameo fighters to the roster, instead choosing to tweak the current roster and offer new moves to some of the cast, like Sub-Zero receiving Deep Freeze and Iceball Special or Kung Lao getting access to Orbiting Hat and Wobbly Hat. Either way, NetherRealm is invested inMortal Kombat 1for the long haul, as evidenced by the latest game update.
The update specifically fixes a variety of UI and visual issues across the PC and Switch versions, while also making undisclosed AI adjustments and improvements to all platforms.Mortal Kombat 1’s single player Invasions Modealso received a few fixes and key updates as well, including now showing Towers of Time challenges from the pause menu. However, one change that most players seem excited about is that finishing Towers now awards Points in addition to completing Challenges. Essentially, points can be used to upgrade character stats, investing in things like Health, Attack, Special, Defense, and Agility to become stronger in the Invasions game mode.
While not a true balance update, many of theMortal Kombat 1Khaos Reigns charactersalso saw tweaks in this update, though in the case of Sektor and Cyrax, they had several visual issues fixed when performing a finisher in certain areas of maps. Noob Saibot no longer applies Exocism when Ghostball is reflected, and an issue with Uppercut Jump Cancel was fixed as well. Kenshi had a similar Uppercut Jump Cancel fix applied, and Kano’s Kameo fighter now triggers autoblock after performing Eye Laser.
Response to the smaller update has seemingly been positive, though many used the opportunity to highlight things they want to see changed or added down the road. A handful of players also highlighted a sync issue with the PC version of the game, while others commented on the lack of updates addressing the arrival of new features. One in particular is with the heavilyrumored Online Lobby system coming toMortal Kombat 1. While NetherRealm has yet to state anything definitive on the feature to this point, various leaks and datamined information seem to indicate that these heavily requested features are on the way at some point.
