Godhood in anime, specifically Isekai anime, is really not a new concept, as the portrayal of beings as gods is a nearly endless trope, particularly in isekai anime. In the endless portrayals, these Gods exist for different purposes. Some show themselves as benevolent and righteous, others as self-serving and indulgent, and some others hinge their existences on fulfilling the role of the bad guy.
In light of this, the focus of this piece rests on those Gods who are the necessaryreminders of evilin every story. So, below is a list of the most evil of gods in the seemingly endless branch of anime, that is, isekai anime.
5Vysis - Failure Frame: I Became The Strongest and Annihilated Everything With Low-Level Spells
The Goddess
Vysis isthe main antagonistof theFailure Frameseries and the goddess responsible for summoning the series’s protagonist, and then betrays him and leaves him for dead due to her objectives. Unlike most goddesses, Vysis is cold-blooded and callous, using and disposing of humans as she sees fit after achieving her objectives with them. This is evident in her treatment of her apostles, as she even goes as far as to hold their families hostage should they dare defy her.
Outwardly, Vysis maintains a graceful and compassionate demeanor that is cast aside at every chance she gets to showcase her callousness due to only conceiving humans as inferior and incapable of defying her status.
4Hitogami - Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
Man-God
The self-proclaimed god of humans, Hitogami, is the main villain ofMushoku Tensei:Jobless Reincarnationand was once a human who attained the status of a god by killing the previous and original human god. Hitogami’s origins are largely unknown; however, it is established that he was born within the Void World, one of the realms of the Six-Faced World, where the story takes place.
The arch-enemy of both Rudeus and the Dragon God, Orsted, Hitogami, in reality, is a sadistic and manipulative being who puts up of facade of calm and benevolence while hiding behind the scenes to make sure his targets lose the things and people they cherish the most in the most gruesome manner, as he almost did with Rudeus who narrowly avoided the prophecy where in Hitogami is supposed tomurder every memberof his family brutally. Despite being a god, Hitogami is known for throwing tantrums when his plans are disrupted.
3Ehit - Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest
False God
The main antagonist oftheArifuretaseries, Ehit, is the god who ruled over Tortus, the human world where the story takes place. Prior to attaining his godhood, Ehit was initially benevolent and kind. However, after living for several millennia, his disposition toward humans begins to shift and morph into a stone-cold disregard for human lives, leading him to become a cold, sadistic, psychotic entity who has an obsession with immortality.
Through thousands of years, Ehit enacts his cruel and sadistic whims on the people of Tortus purely for personal pleasure by posing as two different gods to the two distinct races of the realm and leading them down a path of endless and ceaseless warfare. Surprisingly, none of his actions are aimed at any grand malicious scheme, just simply acts of cruelty and manipulation for his amusement.
2Goddess - Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy
Bitch
A nameless but rather important deity in theMoonlit Fantasyseries, the Goddess, despite her level of power, embodies the human definition of vanity and ego due to an obsession with her physical appearance and of others. An obsession that leads her to mistreat and disregardthe story’s protagonistsimply because she thought him not to be attractive enough.
Highly manipulative, the Goddess has an irrepressible want to be worshiped, which makes her disliked by every other deity within the series, on top of being a coward when faced with an opponent of equal or greater power. While she has no grand evil schemes, Her obsession with worship is to the point where she even threatens to destroy the world if she ever loses her powers as the goddess of creation.
1Being X - The Saga of Tanya The Evil
God
In his own words, the main villain of theSaga of Tanya The Evil, Being X is the true God and claims to be the god of the Bible who gave Moses the Ten Commandments. However, throughout the series, Being X just shows to be a deity obsessed with worship and irrationally displeased by atheism. This brings about the reincarnation of the story’s protagonist, from an atheist Japanese businessman into Tanya Von Degurechaff, the battle-crazed little girl at the forefront of military warfare in an alternate 20th-century Europe.
While Being X’s intentions might have been valid initially, the deity’s methods of execution throughout the series leave a lot to be desired, especially from Tanya’s perspective. To prove a point about the essence of worship and religion, Being X essentially crafts a world filled with strife, pain, and suffering to try to correct a single person’s defiance, putting the lives of millions at stake.
