After its official release, Warner Bros.' crossover fighting game,MultiVersus, has seen many new additions in the form of fighters, stages, and cosmetics. Recently, leaks and data mines have uncovered many potential new stages for the game, which, if true, might paint a vivid picture ofMultiVersus’ future.
In its testing rollout,MultiVersussaw a surge of huge success which very quickly dropped off. In an effort to stop that dropoff from affecting the official release, Warner Bros. has taken full advantage of the live service nature of the game, frequently addingnewMultiVersuscontentto keep players invested. But, with the games near constant updates, it has become a popular target for data miners and leakers. Over the last few months, some of these leakers have posted various new stages that are allegedly in the works. Unfortunately, these leakers have been ousted from X, making any attempts at tracking down primary sources incredibly difficult. This information, like all leaks and rumors, should be taken with a grain of salt, and no official word has been given about the possibility of truth behind these in-progress maps. Nonetheless, their potential has sparked hope in the eyes of fans.
Most Concrete Examples
The possible validity of this round of stage leaks runs a range from fairly likely to head-scratchingly unusual. Although all of these maps are still only theoretical, the detail of the artwork and the presence of certain playable characters makes some far more likely to be real than others. As with many crossoverplatform fighters, most players receive their own stage, and most stages belong to a playable fighter. However,MultiVersusisn’t exactly a perfect example of this trend.
Looney Tunes
Given Looney Tunes’ status as the crown jewel of Warner Bros.’ empire, the franchise already has several fighters and stages inMultiVersus, but it’s not unreasonable to think the game has room for more. 2 different maps based on the beloved cartoons have received leaked artwork. The first depicts what appears to be an original location in the Looney Tunes’ universe that wasn’t featured in the cartoons. The map includes a large ground-level platform, and a tree with a treehouse, which comprises 4 mini-platforms. Below the ground platform, there are two more areas to fight that represent gardens growing carrots. Of course, this stage brings to mind Bugs Bunny, who, despite being a playable fighter in the game since launch, and ahighly competitive character, doesn’t yet have a home stage.
The second leakedLooney Tunes’ stage references the Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons, taking place in a dry canyon with a road in the background and a sign saying “Beep Beep.” The actual fighting platform stretches from one side of the screen to the other, depicting the top of a rocky arch. Two wooden towers have been built on either side, and a large pile of Acme TnT comprises a middle platform. The explosive platform also features a plunger, perhaps hinting at a possible stage hazard. If this stage is real, it might also hit at the reveal of either Wille E. Coyote or Roadrunner joining the roster, as those cartoons don’t currently feature in the game, although they’re not among theexpected new characters.
Adventure Time
Adventure Time is often cited as a key player in Cartoon Network’s renaissance, so unsurprisingly, it also features heavily inMultiVersus. Despite three characters in the roster, the show only has one current stage, so the 2 leaked maps based on the show would even the numbers if they are a reality. One map is very simple, consisting of a large tower that forms a central platform, and no additional space. In the background, the show’s Candy Kingdom and several supporting characters can be seen. The other map’s image shows some sort of tavern-like location in the candy kingdom with 4 medium platforms placed along a building representing different floors. Some Candy Kingdom residents and artifacts from the show are present in this map as well, though they look to just be background images. With a lack of stages per character, it makes sense that these maps might represent home stages forJake the Dogand the Banana Guard.
Samurai Jack
One of the most recent additions to the game,Samurai Jack, has been popular amongMultiVersusplayers. His popularity might give extra credence to the possible stage that would represent his self-titled show. The actual fighting ground in this map is very simple, just including one flat platform that looks to cover the entire screen. However, the art is what makes Samurai Jack’s home-world really stand out. The gimmick of the map is that, based on the show’s premise of Jack being displaced in time, it would randomly shift between Jack’s home in the past and the futuristic setting of most of the show. The contrast of the tranquil Japanese-inspired buildings to the vivid, overgrown forest would give players an interesting experience on an otherwise bland stage.
Acme Labs
The Acme Labs stage leak stands out as a highly complete looking map based on an IP that isn’t currently represented in the game at all. This lab is the home of Pinky and The Brain, two lab mice bent on world domination, who started life inThe Animaniacsbefore receiving their own spinoff show. This map takes place atop a lab table with some sort of electronic device on it. It’s unclear if the device would create platforms, but a large hamster wheel in the center of the table has four dominoes mounted to it that would. With the wheel being attached to the device, it’s speculated that the domino platforms would rotate during the fight. A gimmick like this could even place thisMultiVersusstage among fan favoritesif it becomes a reality. Though Pinky and the Brain aren’t inMultiVersusyet, if this stage turns out to be real, they might be included in a later update.
Highly Rumored
A whole host of other possible maps have also been leaked, though they are in much less complete forms. Most notably,BarbieandHarry Potterhave been tossed into the list of possible fightersbased on potential stages. A bright pink bare-bones model of Barbie’s dreamhouse, and an unfinished stage that includes floating broomsticks are unmistakable hints, if true. There are also more bare-bones model maps that have fans hoping some other franchises might be included in later updates. A map that looks like it would take place atop unusual cars is believed to be an in-the-worksMad Maxstage. There is also a stage with models that seem to resemble the house and windmill fromCourage the Cowardly Dog. With so many franchises owned by Warner Bros., almost anything is a possibility forMultiVersus, so this high amount of speculation is no surprise, even if it’s important to remain aware that all of these leaks are unconfirmed.
