Summary
Just like every other successful action shōnen manga,My Hero Academiawas brought over to the big screen on several occasions, with the most recentMy Hero Academiafilm being released recently in 2024. But what makes it stand out from other similar IPs is that most of the characters who are introduced in these movies are actually canon to the manga, even if they are barely mentioned in it.
This semi-canon existence of characters introduced in the variousMy Hero Academiamovies is truly fascinating, especially because some of them are surprisingly powerful, to the point that they could easily go toe-to-toe against even the strongest of heroes and villains from the main series, and the following 10 are some of the most impressive examples.
10Giulio Gandini
An Effective Fighter Who Can’t Even Use His Quirk
Quirks are everything in the world ofMy Hero Academia, but the franchise occasionally introduces a strong character who can’t use their quirk, but is still quite strong. This is exactly the case forGiulio Gandini, who comes from the most recent film in the series. He may have lost his arm – which prevents him from using his Quirk – but he is still quite a deadly fighter.
Giulio is a perfect example of how reliable and important support items can be, since he’s a cyborg who swiftly took down many enemies with his prosthetic limbs, his robotic eye, his assortment of non-lethal guns and his armored motorcycle. He was even involved in the defeat of two different members of the Gollini Family, and both of them could use their quirks.
9Hoyo Makihara (Mummy)
His Unique Quirk Can Create An Army Of Monsters
Nine and his allies are undoubtedlysome of the most memorable and most powerful antagonists in theMy Hero Academiamovies, andHoyo Makihara, better known asMummy, is no exception. With his quirk, Mummification, he can ensnare inanimate objects with his red bandages and turn them into mummies that he controls at will. It doesn’t work on humans, but he can still control them by manipulating their clothing and accesories.
This has proven to be quite an effective power, especially when Mummy had to fight multiple opponents at the same time, like many members of U.A. High School’s Class 1-A. Nevertheless, he was defeated by Bakugo and captured much earlier in the movie than any other villain, which proves that he was the weakest member of the team.
8Ena And Dio (Serpenters)
This Villain Duo Gave Bakugo A Very Tough Time
Katsuki Bakugo didn’t star in many solo fights against villains in the main story, but he did get one in the third movie, and it was as intense as it was exciting. During the climax ofWorld Heroes' Mission, he had to fight againstEnaandDio, better known as theSerpenters, all by himself.
These villains were already quite powerful, thanks to their synchronized teamwork and their deadly quirk that allowed them to turn their arms into extendable whip swords. But the tide of the battle completely changed the moment that the Serpenters ingested Trigger, which turned them into vicious monsters with six tentacle swords each. Fortunately, Bakugo managed to defeat them after a challenging fight.
7Leviathan
One Of The Weirdest Quirks In The Series Is Also One Of The Strongest
Shoto Todoroki’s fight againstLeviathanmay not be as memorable as Bakugo’s clash with the Serpenters, but it still was one of the best action sequences in the movie. This is mostly due to the villain’s particular appearance and his strange but deadly quirk with an equally strange name: Helical Scythe.
This ability lets Leviathan grow red rotating appendages on his fingers and his head that he can extend as much as he wants. These appendages are surprisingly strong, since they can break through Todoroki’s ice and create potent whirlpools in the water. However, it’s important to keep in mind that Leviathan’s Helical Scythe was also boosted by Trigger, so it’s currently unknown how it normally functions.
6Kiruka Hasaki (Slice)
A Villainess With A Powerful And Practical Quirk
At first glance,Kiruka Hasaki’squirk may not seem all that interesting, but throughout the course of the movie, she shows off how effective it actually is.Slice(which is also her villain name) gives her the ability to completely manipulate her own hair, by hardening it, extending it and even shooting sharpened strands at her enemies.
With this practical superpower, Slice destroyed multiple ships with one attack, and she could even stand her ground when fighting multiple students from Class 1-A at the same time, even after part of her hair was melted by Mina’s acid. At the end of the day,it took the power of an enraged Dark Shadow fighting in the darkto stop her, which cemented how impressive she was.
5Flect Turn
A Living Impenetrable Barrier
For the main villain ofWord Heroes’ Mission,Flect Turn, his quirk is both a blessing and a curse. Simply named Reflect, it lets him absorb energy and send it back to his opponents, which is an excellent defense to block his enemies' attacks. However, this permanent quirk also prevented Flect Turn from making physical contact with his friends and his family, which is what, ultimately, radicalized him.
With Reflect, Flect Turn becomes an impenetrable barrier that can not only withstand even the strongest attacks, but he can also send them back with equal force, although it is important to clarify that he’s assisted by his support item: an exoskeleton named Arachne. During the movie’s climax, Deku was forced to use multiple powerful attacks boosted by One For All in order to overload Reflect and break through Flect Turn’s defenses.
4Chojuro Kon (Chimera)
The Strongest And Most Versatile Mutant Type Quirk In The Series
Most people in the franchise who were born with animal-based, Mutant Type Quirkscan usually wield the abilities of one specific creature at a time. ButChojuro Kon, better known asChimera, is a notorious exception, since he apparently can use the powers of multiple animals at the same time, thanks to his quirk, which is also named Chimera.
He has immense strength, speed and durability, the jaws of a wolf, the legs of a bird of prey, the tail of a crocodile and, to top it all off, he can also fire powerful blasts of fire from his mouth, similar to a dragon. The climactic encounter between multiple members of Class 1-A and Chimera was quite intense, since it seemed like they were not going to be able to defeat him. In the end, they barely managed to take him down, and they mostly succeeded thanks to Shoto Todoroki’s efficient quirk.
3Wolfram
He Was The Only Main Villain Who Faced All Might Himself
Even though the main antagonists of subsequentMy Hero Academiamovies were definitely more powerful than him, there’s no denying thatWolframis still one of the most impressive villains in the entire franchise. He wields a magnetic quirk named Metal Manipulation that was quite useful in the futuristic setting of I-Island and, on top of that, he enhanced it by wearing David Shield’s Quirk Amplification Device.
If all of that wasn’t enough, Wolfram was also granted additional quirks by All For One. All of these elements combined turned him into a gigantic mass of metal and muscles that appeared to be impossible to take down, and it took the combined efforts of both Deku and All Might to defeat him. The fact that Wolfram was the only character in the entire series that fought this heroic mentor and protégé duo proves how threatening he actually was.
2Dark Might
A Twisted, Dark Version Of All Might With An Enhanced Quirk
Valdo Gollini, better known asDark Might, is an ambitious but dangerous villain who not only twisted All Might’s idealsso he can keep getting stronger, but he also has an impressive quirk that lets him do whatever he pleases, and it’s named Alchemy. With it, Dark Might can transmute the physical matter of anything he touches and transform it into something else, meaning it’s not too different from Overhaul’s quirk.
Not only can he use Alchemy to transform stuff like coins or rings into pillars, weapons, platforms and flying fists, but he also used it on himself to look exactly like All Might. And if Dark Might’s immense power wasn’t already menacing, he boosted his quirk with Anna’s quirk, Overmodification. At the end of the movie, Dark Might went through multiple powerful transformations that had to be taken down by Deku, Bakugo and Todoroki working together, which was no small feat.
1Nine
He’s Basically A Clone Of All For One
Nineis undoubtedly the most powerful villain from aMy Hero Academiafeature film, especially because he has a strong connection to the main antagonist of the entire series. He was already born with an incredible quirk which he could use to manipulate the weather at will, letting him create large electrical storms, powerful tornadoes and more.
But, as if that wasn’t already enough, Nine was one of All For One’s personal pet projects before Tomura Shigaraki and, as a result, he could use a copy of his master’s quirk, which allowed him to steal and use other people’s abilities. The combination of multiple combined quirks made Nine an extremely dangerous threat that the heroes would never have been able to defeat if Deku didn’t pass One For All to Bakugo, which let both of them use it at full power and defeat the villain in a bombastic final battle. There are very few characters in the series that could’ve survived such a legendary attack.
