Summary

A new experience in the world ofDestinyhas officially been unveiled in the form of a mobile game titledDestiny: Rising, an RPG shooter developed by NetEase which appears to take place in an alternate timeline within theDestinyuniverse. Fans have been aware of a rumored mobileDestinygame for months now, and while the reveal trailer does finally give fans a look at what to expect in terms of gameplay, there remains a plethora of questions surrounding the mobile-exclusive title.

WithDestiny: Risingallegedly being developed almost entirely by NetEase Games, the studio behind titles such asOnce HumanandDiablo Immortal, players shouldn’t have to worry about Bungie stretching itself thin across too many projects. TheDestiny 2developer has recently shared a ton of new informationpertaining to the content it plans to release for its flagship game throughout 2025, including a full roadmap for Codename: Frontiers which details how next year’s content will be divided up and roughly when fans should expect to see it. The studio also seems to be hard at work onMarathon, which appears to remain in development despite the considerable number of layoffs and general chaos at Bungie in recent times.

Still, the reveal trailer forDestiny: Risingreveals gameplay which, on the surface, appears remarkably similar to that of the main game. The game seems to take place in a bygone age before the existence of Guardians as they’re known today, suggesting that the game itself occurs during theWarlord era of theDestinyuniverse, although a description of the game fromits official Twitter accountdescribes it as taking place “in an alternateDestinytimeline.” While there appears to be a lot for fans to dig into, the game isn’t available to jump into right away. Players will need to visit the game’s official website and register to participate in the game’s first closed alpha test which starts on November 1.

Destiny: Rising Reveal Trailer

Alpha aside, no official release date for the game has yet been shared. Previous rumors indicate that Bungie’s involvement with the game’s development is largely tied to that of the game’s narrative and lore. The pre-alpha gameplay shown in the trailer shows a mix of first-person and third-person combat, and features a variety of familiar locations and enemies throughout the Sol System. The game seems to be largely hero-based, featuring a selection of unique characters and a plethora of newabilities not seen inDestiny 2.

Quite a few of therumors attached toDestiny: Risingseem to have been all but confirmed by the content shown in the game’s first trailer. But while the art style and gameplay ofDestiny: Risingappears strongly reminiscent of the main game, fans should expect it to involve the same kind of monetization practices involved with mobile games in general.
