Summary
Niantic has banned Morpeko fromPokemon GOChampionship series events until further notice, which includes the 2025 Gdańsk Regionals as well as the League events that will take place after the announcement. Morpeko has quickly gained popularity in PvP due to its unique set of abilities, and it seems like the developers might implement some balancing changes to make the Pokemon ready for competitive play inPokemon GO.
Pokemon GOfans have tons of exciting events in the month of October. For instance, thePokemon GOHalloween eventmarked the debut of Morpeko and the return of tons of costumed Pokemon. Along with that, the Gigantamax feature also debuted in the game recently. However, amid all of that, Niantic has also added another Pokemon to the ban list.
In a new tweet, the official handle of Play Pokemon makes an important announcement regarding upcoming tournaments. From October 28 onwards, Morpeko will be banned fromPokemon GOChampionship series events. Further clarifying which events will be affected by this change, the tweet adds that it will apply to both the 2025 Gdańsk Regionals, which is slated to be held in the first week of November, as well as the subsequent League events. There was a lot of hype around therelease of Morpeko inPokemon GO, so some players will be disappointed that they will not get a chance to use their favorite Pokemon.
Pokemon GO Fans Are Confused About the Reason for Morpeko Ban
While the developers have not mentioned how long this ban will last, it will likely not be brought back until the developers tweak the Pokemon a bit, though, there seems to be a bit of ambiguity around why Morpeko was banned. One theory is thatMorpeko’s form-changing ability inPokemon GOis unbalanced. Currently, Morpeko changes its forms on every charged attack, and players feel that it makes the Pokemon difficult to counter. While that is how it is supposed to work canonically, fans think that this mechanic doesn’t quite fit well within the current meta. Instead, players think that it should change forms while using Aura Wheel only.
Another theory that some players have is that the Aura Wheel type is not changing correctly. Apparently, if players use a differentcharged attack inPokemon GOand then change the type of Morpeko, the Aura Wheel type remains the same. When coupled with the attack buff attribute of the Aura Wheel, it becomes one of the most powerful attacks in the game.
