Grezzo is the developer behindThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. They have worked with Nintendo on several Zelda ports and remakes including the 2019 remake ofThe Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakeningon the Switch andThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeon the 3DS. They have worked on other Nintendo franchises too like Mario along with testing their own unique titles, but theZeldaseries seems to be their bread and butter.

SinceThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomhas been reviewed well along with all otherZeldatitles under their guidance, Nintendo should putmore trust in Grezzo. If internal Nintendo teams don’t want to touch old IPs then they should give Grezzo a choice on what they could revive. Whether they wish to make a sequel or remake of an old game is up to them, but here are some ideas.

Building Robots And Becoming The Best

Custom Robobegan as a series in Japan as an N64 game in 1999. North America’s first taste was on the GameCube in 2004 followed by the DS in 2007. That game,Custom Robo Arena, was the last one to ever be released in the series.

They all play similarly with kids buying parts and customizing their toymechs to fight in action-based battle arenas. Since Grezzo is great at making games look like toys, like inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, this would be a great fit for them. It’s also been a while since theCustom Robofranchise has been seen and assuredly there have to be some hardcore fans out there waiting for a sequel or collection.

Promo art featuring Pit in Kid Icarus Uprising

TheKid Icarusfranchise has had a wild history. It began as an NES game in 1986 in Japan with North America receiving it a year later. North America then got a one-up on Japan as they received a sequel on the Game Boy which wasn’t released initially overseas. The series went dead after that until the 3DS reboot in 2012 and that game,Kid Icarus: Uprising, was the last title.

Pit, the main character from the series, has lived on as a fighter in theSuper Smash Bros.games. There are even other characters from Kid Icarus inSuper Smash Bros.Ultimatespecifically Dark Pit and Lady Palutena. So, the franchise isn’t completely dead but there hasn’t been a new game in over a decade. Based on Grezzo’s expertise, it would almost be better if they remade the first game in a new style rather than to match the high intense action of a sequel like Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Since it was released in Japan in 2006 on the Game Boy Advance, fans have been clamoring for an official release ofMother 3in North America. Despite their cries, it still hasn’t happened yet. Should Grezzo be given the reins to remake that game? At this point, it would almost be funnier if they just helped makeMother 4. It would be a troll move by Nintendo to skip the game everyone wants to then make a brand new game.

Maybe this would excite fans more but either way, Grezzo does have the chops to make RPGs. Many may not remember it, but they developedEver Oasison the 3DS which was an action RPG along with the Switch port ofMiitopiawhichwas more turn-based. To note, Lucas and Ness from the Mother series have become fighters inSuper Smash Bros.games as well.

Promo art featuring characters in Punch-Out (2009)

Punch-Out!!began in arcades in 1984 but most fans probably remember the NES version more.Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!was released in 1987 and it was more thana boxing game. It was a puzzle-based boss-rush game wherein every fighter had a tell and weakness. It was ahead of its time and thanks to its success, two more games were made. The last of which was on the Wii in 2009.

They were never money-makers likeMarioorPokemonbut they had dedicated Nintendo followers for sure. They never evolved beyond the boxing ring though and it would be interesting if Grezzo took the main character, Little Mac, and gave him more to do. He could explore his city, train before matches in RPG fights, or maybe he’s the mentor now and it’s all a boxing sim. It’s worth mentioning Little Mac is currently in theSuper Smash Bros.series.

Promo art of an island in StarTropics

StarTropicsbreaks the trend and no one from this series has been aSuper Smash Bros.playable character. The series didn’t even get off of its initial platform, the NES. It debuted in 1990 in North America with the hopes it could be another slam hit likeThe Legend of Zeldabut slightly different. It has a lot of the same tropes namely a top-down explorable world.

However, once players went into dungeons, the perspective changed as did the graphics with everything becoming more detailed. It was another game ahead of its time style-wise. It did get one sequel,Zoda’s Revenge: StarTropics 2, in 1994. Technically the series has left the NES now thanks to virtual libraries like on the Switch but there was never a sequel on grander hardware. This game seems the most fitting for Grezzo to tackle as they have been great so far atmakingZeldagamesand it would make the most sense if the team developed a remake of the originalStarTropics.

Promo art featuring characters in Wario Land Super Mario Land 3

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3in 1994 was the first time players got to enjoy Wario as a protagonist in a platformer title. After this, the franchise just becameWario Landas Nintendo realized he was a big enough selling point on the Game Boy without Mario’s help. There were quite a few of these games and Wario even got several spinoffs liketheWarioWareseries.

WarioWare has endured save for some dry spells but the last Wario Land game wasWario Land: Shake It!in 2008 which was a Wii game. Grezzo has already tackled one Mario spinoff, the 3DS remake ofLuigi’s Mansion, which was well-reviewed. So before they get to tackle aMariogame proper, Nintendo could give them a shot at a newWario Landor even a remake.
