The latest games making their way toNintendo Switch Onlinecould bring hope for fans of an underappreciated Nintendo franchise. Most of the time, the additions toNintendo Switch Onlinelargely exist to show some love to some classic Nintendo titles. Something could be different about the latest additions to the service’s Game Boy Advance library though. Granted, a lot of classics have already come to Nintendo Switch Online for little reason than to make them more accessible to players. However, the newest set of games could mark a trend that could eventually lead up to an exciting development.

Nintendo Switch Online May Have Set the Stage For F-Zero’s Comeback

F-Zero Just Added Two New Games to Nintendo Switch Online

In the latest update,twoF-Zerogames joined Nintendo Switch Online,F-Zero: GP LegendandF-Zero Climax. These two games stand out among the franchise, being based on theF-Zero: GP Legendanime and featuring a few characters that are otherwise exclusive to that series, alongsideF-Zeromainstays like Captain Falcon and Samurai Goroh. The addition of these two games adds to Nintendo Switch Online’s collection ofF-Zerotitles, bringing the total number to four. Only major franchises likeMarioandZeldacan lay claim to larger collections on the service. For one of Nintendo’s lesser focused-on series, that statistic is notable.

The only remaining mainlineF-Zerogames missing from Nintendo Switch Online areF-Zero: Maximum VelocityandF-Zero GX.

F-Zero’s Profile Has Notably Raised in Recent Years

In addition to having so many past games made playable, therecently updatedF-Zero 99is another sign of Nintendo’s continued interest in the franchise. It has been 20 years sinceF-Zerohas released a mainline entry, and the series has maintained an enduring fanbase in spite of that. Since Nintendo has already put in work to raiseF-Zero’s profile, it’s not out of the question to think that more plans for the series could be in-store. A remake ofF-Zero GXis possible, since Nintendo has seen several remakes recently. However, it could also mean a proper revival ofF-Zerois approaching.

The Environment Feels Right For a New F-Zero Game to Debut

A newF-Zerogame would have a lot to offer. Considering recent trends, anF-Zerocomeback on the Switch 2could be in the cards. The reveal of the Switch 2 is going to be a highly-anticipated event in the first place. Launching a newF-Zerotitle alongside it would have a strong chance of building the hype surrounding it further. SinceF-Zerowill have been off the table for over two decades at that point, it would have the potential to spur one of the biggest comebacks in Nintendo’s history. The Switch 2’s release could be the perfect timing for anF-Zerorevival.

Most ofF-Zero’s library is on Nintendo Switch Online now, and the future may hold more opportunities for the series. Despite fears thatNintendo has abandonedF-Zero, recent years have shown that to not be the case. Between itsMario Kartcrossover and the launch of a battle royale, it has gotten plenty of attention recently. With so manyF-Zeroupdates recently, it would be surprising if it wasn’t building up to something bigger. For that reason, a newF-Zerogame in Nintendo’s future seems likelier than ever.
