No More Room in Hell 2is a co-op action zombie game that sets the stakes high with features like permadeath, limited supplies, and limit-pushing encounters. For some players, the zombie genre has grown somewhat stale over time and doesn’t always bring much new to the table, but No More Room Hell in 2is bringing interesting new innovations to said table. Developed by Torn Banner Studios,No More Room in Hell 2puts players in the shoes of emergency responders trying to survive and save humanity in the midst of how a real-life zombie apocalypse could potentially unfold, rather than dealing with the post-apocalyptic aftermath of events.
In a recent preview event attended by Game Rant,No More Room in Hell 2director Leif Walter described the game as “extremely challenging” and detailed several strategies players can utilize to survive its realistic zombie apocalypse experience. Intriguingly, whileNo More Room in Hell 2is an action horror experience, Walter also described avoiding zombies as the “optimal playthrough.”
No More Room in Hell 2 Is Designed To Be “Extremely Challenging”
During ourNo More Room in Hell 2hands-on preview, Walter talked through several survival strategies that could help players survive since the game is meant to be “extremely challenging.” For instance, Walter said players start vulnerable and alone with nothing but a torch and an iron pipe to navigate their surroundings. Walter added players should also be cautious about what they carry as they gear up. Rather than collecting every item under the sun, Walter said players also have limited inventory space and should prioritize collecting Supply Items, which don’t take up inventory slots. Where players usually have all kinds of weapons from the get-go in mostopen-world zombie games, inventory management looks set to offer another layer of challenge inNo More Room in Hell 2and another way it could make things feel more realistic. Furthermore, Walter later revealed there are several difficulty levels in the game’s Power Plant map according to the average level of Responders present, so it also seems various difficulties have the potential to alter the experience considerably.
Additionally, Walter emphasized the importance of safety in numbers and advised players to group up with others as soon as possible alongside completing core objectives. Although the game enables up to eight-player co-op and includes helpful equipment like a compass, it doesn’t make it easy to find others by placing players separately across its massive map. While teaming up is optional, the game essentially rewards players if more squadmates survive in the face ofNo More Room in Hell 2’s permadeath and “co-op with consequences” approach.
No More Room in Hell 2 Director Says Avoiding Zombies Is The “Optimal Playthrough”
On top of all that, Walter also mentionedNo More Room in Hell 2’s zombies will keep coming at players and described avoiding them as the “optimal playthrough.” Where most zombie games typically encourage combat with often over-the-top weapons,No More Room in Hell 2embraces horror over actionwith alternative ways to fight back. For instance, Walter recommended utilizing the environment rather than fighting zombies, like taking advantage of safer areas like high ground, closing doors, making barricades, and using traps like gas canisters. Walter added players should be cautious of blood-eyed zombies, which are harder to defeat.
Walter also said it is likely that players will lose their Responder and must restart their progress if they die. Of course,No More Room in Hell 2’s permadeath already ups the stakes and is reason enough to avoid zombies altogether.
