The response toAstro Botfrom fans and critics alike has been nothing short of wonderful. The platformer enjoyed immense acclaim thanks to its celebration of PlayStation’s 30-year history with a collection of VIP bots inspired by iconic characters affiliated to the brand. However, someAstro Botplayers were left longing for more post-game content, such as the speedrun levels fromAstro’s Playroom.Astro Botalso missed out on some crucial PlayStation cameos, and it seems Team Asobi has been listening to the feedback.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, Team Asobi boss Nicolas Doucet revealed thatAstro Bot’s free post-launch content updatewill begin rolling out on a weekly basis fromOctober 17to November 14. A brand-new speedrun level will be added each week, with tomorrow’s inaugural level dubbed Building Speed. Here,Astro Botplayers will utilize the bulldog booster power-up to traverse a level similar to Construction Derby in the base game. These speedrun levels are also said to test players' platforming skills and will include an online leaderboard.
Every New Speedrun Level Coming to Astro Bot
That’s not all, though, as every speedrun level contains two new VIP bots, making for a total of 10 new bots to rescue by the end of the content rollout. The September State of Play trailer already showed off VIP bots representing Eve fromStellar Bladeand theHelldiverssquad, so it should be interesting to see which otherPlayStation franchises will be featured inAstro Bot’s free DLC. It’s also intriguing that Team Asobi is going with a weekly content rollout rather than releasingAstro Bot’s DLC content all at once.
The staggered approach isn’t anything new, of course, asAstro’s Playroomalso received weekly bonus content back in June to build anticipation forAstro Bot’s launch. This led to amajor player count boost forAstro’s Playroom, which is likely what influenced Team Asobi to do the same forAstro Bot. Weekly content drops will keep players coming back on a regular basis, and can even help Team Asobi tweak forthcoming levels according to feedback.
