Overwatch 2Season 13 recently revealed its upcoming changes. These include a spooky-themed battle pass, the return of Halloween Terror, and a new mode called Junkenstein’s Laboratory, which features selectable talents and abilities. In addition to quality-of-life updates such as map changes for Dorado, Numbani, Circuit Royale, and Havana, the newest hero to get the highly-coveted Mythic skin inOverwatch 2has been unveiled.
Mythic skins were introduced with the launch ofOverwatch 2in 2022, with one character receiving a highly customizable cosmetic each season. However, starting from Season 11, players can alsoacquire Mythic Weapons, which aren’t to be confused with the Mythic skins. Notably, for Season 13, it was confirmed that Widowmaker is getting the Mythic skin, surprising some fans who expected it to go to Ramattra or D.Va.

Fans Are Torn Over Widowmaker’s Spellbinder Mythic Skin
While the overall reception toWidowmaker’s Spellbinder Mythiccosmetic has been positive, opinions on its timing have been mixed. Players have noted that the skin is visually appealing, but some are concerned that the hat could be “pay to lose” if it cannot be removed, although promotional images indicate it can be. Additionally, the Mythic skin being awarded to the sniper hero confirms that this marks the third consecutive DPS Mythic.

In the past, it has not been uncommon for Blizzard to release a Mythic skin for a character within the same class, as illustrated by Moira and Mercy in Seasons 9 and 10. However, withReaper getting the Mythic skinin the previous season, and Ashe in the one before that, Widowmaker’s selection caught some in the community off guard. As of October, the total number of Mythic skins in each class stands at three for tanks, six for damage, and four for support.
Tanks May Be Getting the Lesser End of the Bargain in Overwatch 2
Given that the last time the tank class received a Mythic skin was in Season 8, criticisms have emerged regarding Team 4’s attention to this role. Interestingly, Orisa’s Grandbeast Mythic skin for that season faced criticism for being too similar to, or less interesting than, some of her previous epic skins. Regardless, many players are questioning why Ramattra didn’t receive a mage or wizard Mythic skin for the magic-themed season, and these concerns seem warranted. Even a variation of the Deathwing D.Va skin, which would have aligned perfectly withOverwatch 2’s collaboration withWorld of Warcraft, or a Witch D.Va skin, could have been a promising option.
Reinhardt received a Mythic Weapon skin in Season 11; however, it is not a customizable Mythic skin.
Following the announcement, some players have begun turning to social media to express their frustrations at the lack of a new Mythic skin for a tank hero. Season 14 may potentially bring a fourth Mythic skin for the tank role, but some fans speculate that Venture could receive either a collaboration skin or the Mythic in the following season. This theory arose after Aaron Keller mentioned on X that DPS players should look forward to something exciting soon, given their frustration over thelack of cosmetics for Venture.
