Fans of theOne Pieceanime were both surprised and delighted by the recent news thatToei Animation is going to air a re-edited version of theFish-Man Island Arcwhile the current Egghead Arc goes on hiatus for six months.
The animated adaptation of this arc has always been quite divisive in the community, so it will most likely benefit from having a shorter duration and polished new animation, especially during its multiple fights. But this inevitably led many fans to think: What otherOne Piecearcs should be re-edited next? The following examples would certainly be enhanced by Toei Animation’s new improvements.
1Syrup Village Arc
The Worst Arc In The Series Could Get A Much-Needed Redemption
TheSyrup Village Arcis pretty subpar, both in the manga and in the anime: Its pacing is tedious,Kuro is not all that interesting of a villainand Usopp initially comes off as annoying. On top of all that, the anime version has some slow and unimpressive animation, especially during the climactic fight between Luffy and Kuro.
In reality, this arc was already re-edited for theEpisode of East BlueTV special, but it was kept extremely brief and still carried many of the flaws from the original iteration. A new version with improved visuals and more dynamic pacing could do wonders for the reputation of the Syrup Village Arc and its main protagonist, Usopp.
2Long Ring Long Land Arc
All Its Filler Could Be Removed And Its Cut Parts Could Be Added Back In
The anime took theLong Ring Long Land Arc, a bizarre comedic arc that was already polarizing among manga readers, and made it even worse, by adding filler episodes that artificially extended the length of the Davy Back Fight to an irritating extent, and by removing the unexpected appearance of Admiral Aokiji at the very end, a shocking encounter that completely turned the entire arc on its head.
This is a real shame, because, as eccentric as it can be, this arc features some really solid comedic scenes and a sudden change in mood at the end that is not common forOne Piece. A solid re-edit of theLong Ring Long Land Arcthat remains more faithful to the manga could potentially be a lot funnier, and much more satisfying to watch.
3Marineford Arc
An Intense Arc With Many Action Scenes That Could Be Improved On
The animated version of theMarineford Arcis far from bad, and it’s actually beloved by most viewers. However, this monumental war was slightly brought down by the anime’s usual flaws, like the occasional choppy animation, reused flashbacks, and slow pacing.
Toei Animation still managed to pull off a solid adaptation, but if the animators are going to keep this new tradition of re-editing previous arcs, they should give the Marineford Arc another chance. After all, this is a big and important arc that features some of the most exciting battles inOne Piece, and all of them could end up looking and feeling better thanks to the studio’s more modern style of animation.
4Punk Hazard Arc
The Arc That Follows The Fish-Man Island Arc Would Also Benefit From A Re-Edit
MostOne Piecefans agree that the anime saw a significant decline in quality after the time skip, with the Fish-Man Island Arc being the first one to be seriously affected by tedious pacing, unnecessary filler, and more. So, since the first big arc that’s set after time skip is already getting a much-needed re-edit, why not continue with the one that comes immediately after it?
ThePunk Hazard Archas all the elements to be a legendary story arc. The location is unique, Caesar Clown is a memorable villain, Trafalgar Law is an endearing deuteragonist and the plot even sets the stage for the imminent Dressrosa Arc. If Toei Animation takes all the changes it’s already applying to the Fish-Man Island Arc and applies them to the Punk Hazard Arc, it could see the boost in quality that this arc always deserved.
5Dressrosa Arc
The Most Infamous Arc In The Anime Can Now Get The Remaster It Desperately Needs
There’s no denying thattheDressrosa Arcis the most infamous in the entireOne Pieceanime, to the point that many fans blame it as the sole reason why they switched to the manga. It carries every single flaw that other similar arcs had and multiplies them to a hundred. It’s extremely long (even longer than in the manga!), it’s filled to the brim with intrusive recycled flashback sequences and some of its fights are slow and uninteresting when they are supposed to be intense, emotional, and exciting.
Fans have been dreaming of an abridged and/or remastered version of the Dressrosa Arc that would get rid of its glaring issues for years, and some of them even went ahead and re-edited this anime arc by themselves. However, an official re-edit by Toei Animation might just be what this arc needed. At the end of the day, the Dressrosa Arc has a gripping plot that featuresone of the best villains in the entire series: Donquixote Doflamingo.So it would be excellent to see it adapted into a more concise and exciting format.
6Whole Cake Island Arc
It Barely Missed The Train, So It Should Get Another Chance
While it is nowhere near as bad as the Dressrosa Arc, the anime version of theWhole Cake Island Arcstill suffered from all the usual flaws that can be expected from this show. This is unfortunate because most fans believe that Toei Animation stepped up their game with better visuals and more fluid fights in the arc that came immediately after it, the Wano Country Arc.
It’s quite unfair because the Whole Cake Island Arc also tells the story ofthe Straw Hat Pirates’ encounter with one of the Four Emperors: Big Mom. Not to mention that it had a fascinating setting that was like anything that came before it and featured several amazing fights, with the clash between Luffy and Katakuri being the most memorable of the entire arc. At the end of the day, a re-edited version of the Whole Cake Island Arc with the same quality of animation as the Wano Country Arc has the potential to become one of the best things to come out of the entireOne Pieceanime.
