Having been introduced in the pre-timeskip ofOne Piece, fans knew that Blackbeard was alwaysbeing saved by Oda for the Final Saga. Of course, Blackbeard got attention here and there, but, his true role is only going to play out here, which is something that fans are incredibly excited for. Blackbeard is one of the Four Emperors inOne Pieceright now, and a major player in the quest for theOne Piece.
Along with Buggy, Luffy, and Shanks, Blackbeard is one of the four major pirates who are vying for glory and fame on the high seas, and that is precisely what makes him incredibly exciting. Even more than that, Blackbeard is one of the major antagonists ofOne Piece, and one that Oda has made to be a major thorn in Luffy’s side. All these things make Blackbeard an incredible antagonist, possiblyOne Piece’svery best. Just like any other major antagonist, Blackbeard hides many secrets and one of the biggest of them all is pertaining to his own strange body.
Blackbeard’s Special Body In One Piece
It is no surprise for the fans to know that Blackbeard is special. He’s not a normal human and there was always something off about him. This was clear to the fans right from the very beginning, when Luffy first met him in Mock Town. Clearly, Luffy was able to sense something different about Blackbeard, referring to him as ‘they.’ Of course, this could simply be Luffy referring to Blackbeard and his pirate crew, but, a deeper meaning could be found here. Perhaps, Luffy felt more than one presence inside Blackbeard. This was further implied later down the line, when Ace fought against Blackbeard. Despite dealing life-threatening blows to the former member of the Whitebeard Pirates, Ace was not able to make a breakthrough in this fight. He held the upper hand in this battle for a significant period of time, only to lose later.

This pattern repeated itself in the series on multiple occasions, even in the Paramount War, where Blackbeard’s biggest secret was first hinted at. When Blackbeard was able to consume a second Devil Fruit, fans were utterly shocked. This shock was magnifiedeven further by the Five Elders, who stated that in the entire history of the world, no one has successfully eaten more than one Devil Fruit ever. This means that Blackbeard is doubly special and that there is no one like him in the world that the fans or the Elders know of.
Marco was the one who implied that things like eating two fruits are possible for an individual such as Blackbeard because of a special body. However, Marco chose to not go into specific details about his body. At the very least, fans know that his body was special.
In the Wano Country arc, fans got a glimpse of Oden’s life and there, once again, Blackbeard came into focus. In chapter 966 ofOne Piece, Roger and Whitebeard clashed on an unknown island in the Grand Line. There, fans saw Shanks and Buggy go up against the likes of Blackbeard, and a young Jozu, along with some other pirates. Specifically, in the aftermath of this battle, Buggy mentioned that he heard Blackbeard does not sleep at all. Of course, this might just be childhood banter, but, there is certainly a deeper meaning there.
Blackbeard does not sleep and cannot sleep, for some reason. This can further be tied to Luffy in Drum Island, where he stated that there are some people in the world’s winter countries who die if they sleep. Perhaps, this has something to do with Blackbeard’s secret and his special body, which makes things all the more intriguing.
Why Blackbeard Can Eat Two Devil Fruits
Blackbeard’s Unique Body Can Hold Two Powers
Clearly, the reason why Blackbeard can eat two Devil Fruits has to do with his body. Of course, there are many ideas out there, some of which suggest that Blackbeard might have eaten a special Devil Fruit, such as that of the Kraken or an Octopus, which allows him to hold three hearts and, thus, three Devil Fruits. This idea is intriguing, to say the least, but it cannot be true. Blackbeard has a special body not because of a Devil Fruit, but because he was born that way. This is clearly implied by Buggy’s conversation with Shanks, where he says that Blackbeard cannot sleep. Luffy himself implied this in Drum Island, and Oda even drew a young Blackbeard crying at night instead of sleeping.

Clearly,Blackbeard was born specialand this specialty leads to him being able to consume two Devil Fruits. As to what is up with Blackbeard’s body, fans do not know. Perhaps Blackbeard has a parasitic twin inside his own body, and having consumed his twin, he can now hold two Devil Fruits. This would make sense as to why Blackbeard cannot sleep. Perhaps, when Blackbeard sleeps, his twin awakens and prevents him from sleeping or, perhaps, could potentially take his own life.
Of course, all of this is just conjecture, but, if there’s something that fans absolutely love about One Piece, it is theorizing and discussing various ideas. Blackbeard having a parasitic twin is certainly a valid one, and fans might get to see more about it later down the line.
Is Blackbeard From A Special Race?
Blackbeard’s Race Might Not Be So Special
Given that Blackbeard has a special body, it is also possible that he is from a special race. However, while that certainly is a possibility, fans should have known by now if Blackbeard was that special. Furthermore, if Blackbeard was from a special race, then, there should have been more people in the world ofOne Piecewho would have been able to eat two Devil Fruits, and, in that case,the Elders should certainly have been aware, instead of being surprised by Blackbeard being able to consume two of these mighty abilities.
It is highly likely that Blackbeard is not from a special race, but his body is special for a different reason. The idea of Blackbeard having a twin inside his own body that constantly fights with him and potentially could even kill him if he doesn’t suppress him makes more sense. This would also explain why Blackbeard can hold more than one Devil Fruit, given that there are two people inside one body. This is certainly an incredibly exciting idea and explains why Blackbeard has a unique body.
Hopefully, Oda will throw more light onBlackbeard in the Final Saga, and reveal every bit of mystery about him. Blackbeard versus Shanks, and Blackbeard versus Luffy are two fights where Oda will shed light on his special body and abilities, and fans absolutely cannot wait to see that.
