Monkey D. Garp is one of the most well-knownOne Piececharacters. He is the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy and the father of Monkey D. Dragon. Fans have always had an idea of his strength, but they didn’t quite know how he would fare against other strong characters in a fight.
Thankfully, all the questions regarding Garp’s strength have been answered in the Egghead arc. While the main focus of the arc has been Egghead Island, Oda has also explored the events taking place around the rest of the world, including Hachinosu. Aside from revealing Garp’s strength, the arc also disclosed the bounty assigned to him by the Cross Guild.
Monkey D. Garp’s Three Billion Bounty
In One Piece Episode 1121, one of the pirates on Hachinosu shouted Garp’s bounty. Unsurprisingly, it was confirmed to be 3 billion berries, making it one of the highest-known bounties in One Piece. It was also revealed that Garp’s bounty is the same as an Admiral. This means Kizaru, Ryokugyu, and Fujitora also have a 3 billion bounty on their heads. Considering the Admirals are the strongest fighters within the Marines, it makes sense for them to have such a high bounty. Since Garp andthe Admirals have identical bounties, does that mean they are equal in terms of strength?
From Garp’s demolition of Hachinosu, it is quite clear that he is a cut above the Admirals. However,the Cross Guild wouldn’t wantto complicate their bounty system, so they kept Garp at 3 billion berries. There is a strong chance that only the Fleet Admiral has a higher bounty than Garp and the Admirals, as he occupies a higher position. At the moment, the Fleet Admiral’s bounty is unknown, but it should be around 3.5–4 billion berries.
How Strong Is Monkey D. Garp?
Monkey D. Garp is a behemoth that can ragdoll almost every opponent who stands in his way. When Garp reached Hachinosu, he jumped up from the ship and used Galaxy Impact to destroy an entire town on the island. While everyoneelse on Hachinosu wasin utter shock, Garp was disappointed that he didn’t do more damage.
The regular pirates on the island didn’t have a prayer against Garp, so Kuzan had to step up to stop the Vice Admiral. One would think that a man of Kuzan’s caliber would have been able to stop Garp, but the latter proved why he is the strongest Marine in the world. For the majority of the fight, Garp was on the front foot. Kuzan did well in holding his ground, but the Vice Admiral pummeled him without any problem. Furthermore, it is strongly implied that Garp was holding back, as Kuzan used to be his student. Kuzan only gained the upper hand after Garp had been wounded by the Blackbeard Pirates.
Garp’s Haki Is His Biggest Weapon
Monkey D. Garp is one of the few One Piece characters who can use all three types of Haki. He has excellent control over Armament and Conqueror’s Haki as evidenced by his attacks. Another testament to his Haki control is that he is the only Marine who managed to corner Gol D. Roger on more than one occasion. In fact, the Pirate King admitted that the two nearly killed each other multiple times.
Garp’s physical strength is also insane. In his younger days,the Vice Admiral would improvehis power by punching the hull of Marine ships, which was made of sea stone, one of the most durable elements in One Piece. Garp accomplished this feat without using Haki, which goes to show how dangerous he is. Aside from hitting ships, Garp also destroyed mountains with his punches. Another piece of evidence that highlights Garp’s strength is his encounter with Don Chinjao. Chinjao was proud of his drill-shaped head, which he used to pierce a thick sheet of ice. However, Garp managed to flatten it with a single punch. Due to this reason, Chinjao held a grudge against Garp for many decades after the incident.
Can Garp Escape From Hachinosu?
Garp’s Chances Of Leaving Hachinosu Are Low
The big question on the minds of fans is whether Garp can leave Hachinosu with the rest of the Marines. In Episode 1121, fans saw Garp lying on his back after taking Kuzan’s attack head-on. He doesn’t look to be in any condition to continue the fight and actually win. At best, Garp might try to help the young Marines get off Hachinosu.

Considering how Garp threw himself in front of Shiryu’s attack, it would be shocking if he didn’t try to help Koby and others leave the island safely.
The preview for Episode 1122 suggests that Koby might actually join the fight and help Garp a bit. However, it is unclear if Koby’s efforts will be enough toprevent the Blackbeard Pirates fromkilling them.
