Summary
One of the biggest changes that came to theOne Piecestory after the events of the Marineford War was that the balance of power was changed in the pirate world. The death of the legendary Whitebeard meant that there was a power vacuum in the New World where his territories were and that everyone else was fighting to claim the spot that was left by him. This led to new Yonko crews as well.
The most unexpected of these Yonko crews wasrevealed to be the Cross Guild, a massive criminal organization that was led by everyone’s favorite loser; Buggy the Clown. However, despite its hilarious structure and backstory, the Cross Guild is pretty mysterious with its goals and motivations, so let’s take a look at what may be in store for this crew and its higher-ranking members at the end ofOne Piece.
Story Arc
Orange Town Arc
Buggy the Clown is one of the most beloved characters in the entire story, not only among the fandom but also by the creator of the story, Eiichiro Oda, himself. Buggy’s entire role in the story has been one of sheer luck, since nothing he has done has panned out how he wanted, though, he has only failed upwards. This means that despite all the misfortunes he has faced throughout the story, Buggy’s fate has always been steering him towards greater things, which can be seen in his journey from a meager little pirate toan Emperor of the Sea.
Although he unwillingly found himself in the position of a Yonko, it eventually allowed him to remember what his true dream had always been; to find the One Piece treasure and become the King of the Pirates. Because of this dream, and the likelihood of it coming to pass now, many in the fandom believe that Buggy will play a crucial role in the Final Saga, where he may also find his way to Laugh Tale.

However, most suspect that instead of fighting Luffy and the Straw Hats for the mythical treasure, he will actually end up being an ally to them by seeinghow alike Luffy is to Gol D. Roger himself, who Buggy loved dearly. Moreover, seeing how even Shanks vouches for Luffy in everything he does, Buggy may just prove himself to be a vital ally for the Straw Hats in the future, most likely against his own crew and the World Government as well.
There are also many joke theories about what could eventually happen to Buggy. Seeing his incredible luck take him to the greatest levels in the story, many believe that Buggy’s Devil Fruit is actually a ‘Luck-Luck Fruit’ that always manages to save his hide, no matter what. Because of this, some even believe that, through sheer coincidence, Buggy may just be the one to find the One Piece treasure before everyone else.
Little Garden Arc
Crocodile is one ofOne Piece’sbest villains. Although he is a ruthless fighter who has a great level of control over his powerful Devil Fruit, his most valuable asset is his brain, which allowed him to think of the idea of the Cross Guild in the first place. He brought this idea to a former enemy of his, Dracule Mihawk, and with their combined notoriety and strength, they were able to make this organization a reality as one of the biggest threats to the World Government.
The entire idea for the Cross Guild organization came from me and Hawk-Eyes! How did you get labeled the boss, Buggy?
He’s also the character whose motivations are the trickiest to pin down, since he just wants to create his ‘Utopia’ and gain as much power as possible. For the latter point, it is theorized that Crocodile and the Cross Guild are looking to add former Warlords of the Sea to their ranks, which would make them perhaps the most powerful Yonko crew of them all and the perfect counter to the World Government. Moreover, having Buggy become the Pirate King and the figurehead for the crew would only help in gaining as much power as possible.
Baratie Arc
The first of the original 7 Shichibukaito be introduced to the story, Mihawk is one of the strongest and most mysterious characters in the entire series. His strength is so legendary that he used to sail across the seas without a crew, essentially just doing whatever he wanted to. However, during the timeskip, Mihawk found himself as the unwitting trainer for Zoro and, afterwards, one of the real leaders of the Cross Guild alongside Crocodile.
So forge on ahead with that fierce conviction and attempt to surpass my sword! Surpass me, Roronoa Zoro!
Mihawk is powerful enough to rival even Shanks, but ever since his old adversary lost his arm, he has refused to fight him due to his perceived inherent advantage. Because of this, Mihawk just wanders the seas alone, hoping to find a new rival for himself, which is most likely going to be Zoro by the end of the series. By sticking with the Cross Guild, Mihawk has essentially put himself in the position to battle against Zoro to see who the strongest swordsman in the world will be onceOne Piecehas finished.
