Summary
One True King(OTK) has strongly condemned the Palestine statements that Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt shared onTwitchin mid-October 2024. The media organization that theTwitchstar helped co-found also confirmed that Asmongold would be stepping away from his current role at the company, in addition to reiterating some of his recently shared pledges.
The ongoing controversy stems from anOctober 14 streamin which Asmongold equated all Palestinians to Hamas, calling them “terrible people” and asserting that their culture “kills people for their identity,” thus labeling it as “inferior.” He went on to conclude that he doesn’t care aboutPalestinians' current predicament, referring to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, which is estimated to have claimed over 40,000 lives as of October 2024, many of whom were civilians.
The comments caused an online uproar and resulted inAsmongold getting banned from Twitchon October 15. A day later, OTK issued a statement condemning the streamer’s Palestine rant as “disgusting and abhorrent,” while noting that it is strongly against any kind of discrimination and violence. The response was issued only a day after one of OTK co-founders, Tips Out,labeledAsmongold’s comments as “dehumanizing,” calling for an end to such divisive rhetoric while reflecting on his own experiences as the son of Syrian immigrants growing up in the U.S.
OTK Confirms Asmongold Is Stepping Away From His Current Role(s)
The October 16 write-up also sawOTK confirm that Asmongold is “stepping away” from his current roleat the company. Ditto for his involvement in OTK affiliates Mythic, Mad Mushroom, and Starforge Systems. While the wording of this statement suggests Asmongold might return to these same roles in the future, it’s currently unclear when that might happen.
For the time being, the streamer insists that he wants to get his life in order, not least because he feels like he’s been “devolving” in recent years, becoming too angry and focused on putting out negative content. He said as much in a 20-minute video apology published via his YouTube channel on October 16. OTK acknowledged Asmongold’s apology as part of its latest statement, saying that it hopes the streamer “remains committed to the promises” to work on broadening his perspective and changing his life for the better, something that he reiterated both publicly and privately.
Zack vehemently expressed his desire to change his life and broaden his perspective. We hope Zack remains committed to the promises he has made to us, the community, and to himself.
Asmongold’s Twitch ban is expected to be at least two weeks long. The 34-year-old streamer said he intends to start producing more positive content as soon as the ban is lifted, rather than focus on negativity.
