Overwatch 2Competitive Playwill receive several changes to matchmaking that should help those grouping up with friends in Season 13, according to Blizzard. Matchmaking for the wide pool has been tuned to focus on shorter queue times, and theOverwatch 2development team upgraded the Role Delta tech to prioritize matching Tank players against each other more closely in skill. This change emphasizes an even playing field in Competitive Play matches for those choosing to play as a Tank.

Competitive Play and Matchmaking Changes in Overwatch Season 13

After gauging Competitive Play data and player feedback, Blizzard noticed that pre-made groups can gain an overwhelming advantage against solo players inOverwatch 2. WithOverwatch 2Season 13, higher-ranked matches will now take grouping into account when constructing a match, and multiple modifiers associated with MMR (matchmaking rating) decay have been tuned down. This change will make it more difficult for new accounts to unfairly climb into the Top 500 without punishing veteran players who have participated in Competitive Play for multiple seasons.

Overwatch 2players wanting to make it into the Top 500 will now need to complete the Seasoned Competitor lifetime challenge, which requires the player to win 750 games in Competitive Play. This challenge only needs to be completed once in order for the player to appear on any season’s Top 500 leaderboard. According to Blizzard, this change should lower the individual season threshold for games played on a role to 25 per season. Moreover, Blizzard aims to reduce the pressure some players may feel about playing as much as possible during a season.

Patch notes forOverwatch 2Season 13 will be available on October 15with more details on the changes that have been made to Competitive Play and matchmaking. Blizzard is expected to give fans an update on the newMy Hero Academiacollaboration sometime soon within the season as well.
