All Equipment is useful inPhasmophobiaand every item can be used to find a ghost, gather evidence, survive a hunt, or complete optional activities for extra cash. As players level up, they will unlock access to new equipment upgrades, but these must be purchased with in-game cash.
If players have plenty of money from successfully completing contractson harder difficultiesand engaging in optional objectives, then they can likely afford to purchase every upgrade when they reach the required level. However, for those with a limited budget, it’s best to know whichEquipment upgrades to get first inPhasmophobia, as some Tier 2 items are far superior, while other Tier 1 items are surprisingly good without an upgrade.
1Flashlight Tier 2
Increased Light Intensity Grants Better Vision
The first upgrade players gain access to is theTier 2 Flashlight, which they will want to purchase immediately if they can afford the cost. The Flashlight isan item that players will want to carry around most of the time, and even when it is not currently being used, its light can still be switched on.
With medium-intensity light, players will be able to see better, and more importantly, at longer distances. It’s hard to go back to a lower-level torch after upgrading. Spare Flashlights can also be placed on the ground to light corridors or point toward a hiding spot.
2EMF Reader Tier 2
Audio & Colored Lights Makes Detecting Activity Much Easier
TheTier 2 EMF Readeris one of the best upgrades inPhasmophobiaas it features an audio indicator that flares up when there is ghost activity. With bright-colored lights, it is also much easier to read, especially when in the dark or running. If the red light turns on, that means there is EMF Level 5 evidence.
It’s hard to state how much of an improvement this is over the Tier 1 equivalent, which has a needle going up and down. With bright lights and audio that gets louder with higher EMF levels, one tactic forfinding the Ghost Room inPhasmophobiais running around with a Tier EMF Reader looking for any sign of the ghost. Players can also leave spare ones on the floor or tables to detect activity while going about other tasks.
3Spirit Box Tier 2
More Likely To Provide Ghost Responses & Bigger Range
Getting a response from a Spirit Box is one of the hardest pieces of evidence to acquire inPhasmophobia, soupgrading this piece of Equipmentis highly recommended for increased chances of success.
TheTier 2 Spirit Boxmakes things easier by increasing the range by 1m and also by improving the response rate. Combined, these two factors mean that if there is a nearby ghost who gives Spirit Box evidence, they will be more likely to respond. The display screen also helps by showing players that their question has been registered by displaying a black cross. If the ghost responds, a ghost icon will also appear.
4D.O.T.S. Projector Tier 2
This Projector Is Placed To Cover An Entire Section Of A Room
TheTier 2 D.O.T.S. Projectoris completely different from its predecessor, as instead of being held like a torch, it is placed on hard surfaces such as walls. By doing so, after finding the Ghost Room, players will cover an entire wall or section of a room with the D.O.T.S., giving players a better chanceto find D.O.T.S evidenceif the ghost walks through it.
This is particularly great if players set up a camera on a tripod, allowing them to watch for D.O.T.S. from the safety of the van. Despite an upgrade to Tier 2 being recommended, players will want to keep one Tier 1 D.O.T.S. projector in their loadout. This will give them the ability to walk around and find ghosts that may be on the move.
5Flashlight Tier 3
A Far Superior Torch With A Much Wider Spotlight
If players think the first Flashlight upgrade is good, then wait until they get theTier 3 Flashlight. Not only does it boast a bright white high-intensity light, but the spotlight is much larger, meaning players can see more of their surroundings at once.
Given its wider spotlight, this vastly superior Flashlight is somewhat necessary forlarger maps, such as the high school and prison where there is more open space and multiple rooms and corridors to check out. Given how useful this item is, players will want to save up for it when they know they are close to reaching level 35.
6Thermometer Tier 2
Get Accurate Readings Within Seconds
TheTier 2 Thermometeris one of the later upgrades available for Tier 2 Equipment, so players will want to make sure they have saved some money for it when it is finally unlocked. Unlike the basic Thermometer which takes a rather long time to reach temperatures and fluctuates regularly, this electronic device can provide more accurate resultsin mere seconds.
This is not only great for getting thefreezing temperatures evidence inPhasmophobia, but it is also great in general for finding ghosts as they make their surroundings colder.
