Sometimes-antagonist sometimes-ally Goro Majima takes center stage as the protagonist of the upcomingLike a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. An amnesiac Majima becomes convinced that he is a pirate captain, and he sets out to make the Goro Pirates the most fearsome crew in all of Hawaii. It has already been confirmed that a number of elements from previous games will be returning inLike a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, including Dragon Kart, Crazy Delivery, and series staple karaoke. However, this game would be the perfect chance to bring back one element that hasn’t been seen in quite a while: the fan favorite “Majima Everywhere.”

What Is Majima Everywhere?

In the originalYakuzagame,Goro Majimawas fixated on fighting a recently released from prison Kazuma Kiryu, seeing Kiryu as his ultimate rival, capable of giving him the perfect fight. To that purpose, Majima challenged Kiryu to battles multiple times throughout the game.

InYakuza Kiwami, the remake of the first game, a system known as “Majima Everywhere” was implemented. In that game, Majima showed up even more frequently. Using “Majima Everywhere,” the Mad Dog of Shimano could pop up to challenge Kiryu at almost any point in the game. Sometimes, he would just be randomly wandering the streets of Tokyo. Other times, he’d disguise himself as a police officer, a dancer, a zombie, or even a traffic cone to surprise Kiryu.

As defeating Majima repeatedly was the only way for players to level up their Dragon fighting style, mostfound themselves fighting him dozens of times throughout the game. The “Majima Everywhere” system was extremely popular with fans, and led to memes of Majima popping up in unexpected places - Photoshopped into other video games or TV shows, hiding in famous photographs, or even traveling through time to fight in iconic battles throughout history.

Giving Majima His Own “Everywhere” Opponent Would Bring Things Full Circle

Although Goro Majima was previously playable in titles such asYakuza 0, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaiimarks the first time that the Mad Dog has served as sole protagonist of a game. It would be a neat homage to his original appearance if he had a foe who could appear “Everywhere” throughout the game. AsPirate Yakuza in Hawaiiuses the very large Hawaii map previously seen inLike a Dragon: Infinite Wealth,in addition to new maps such as the pirate hangout Madlantis, there are plenty of places for a potential foe to hide. Possible opponents for Majima in his own version of a Majima Everywhere system could include:

WithPirate Yakuza in Hawaiifeaturing an exciting combat system that allows Majima to switch between hisfamiliar “Mad Dog"and new “Sea Dog” styles, a “Majima Everywhere”-like system would be a great way for players to get used to his new weapons and moves. It would also be a fun nostalgic nod, bringing back something that has not been seen since the very firstYakuzagame (well, technically, its remake.) Plus, it’s something that the combat-loving Majima himself would absolutely be down for, as the Mad Dog of Shimano would never turn down the opportunity to fight a challenging and exciting opponent.
