Pokemonrecently underwent the largest batch of leaks in the series' history. Nearly every game in the series has been exposed, with secrets big and small now flooding community discussion. Although upcoming releases have largely been spared,Pokemon Black and Whiteare among the many older titles included in this leak.
The account sharing this information is known online as Centro Leaks, with many referring to the recent event as the “Teraleak”.Centro Leaks' pinned Tweetcurrently features an archive they have uploaded, which supposedly includes all the information revealed throughout the Teraleak. This information is currently considered to be much more reliable than a simple rumor, as there is definitive physical evidence disclosed in each case. With that in mind, it’s time to explore everything revealed aboutPokemon Black and White.
Everything the Massive Pokemon Leak Revealed About Black and White
Unreleased Pokemon from Generation 5
Much of the most enticing information includes the Pokemon that were cut from each generation. Compared to some other Generations, the Teraleak has uncovered relatively few unreleased Pokemon fromPokemon Black and White. This is likely due to Generation 5 having a fully formed design philosophy from the jump, in which it sought to remix many of theiconic Pokemon designs from the Kanto Region. Currently, there are only seven Pokemon revealed by the Teraleak which did not make the cut.
Only three of these seven designs are stages in a self-contained evolution line, with Tanisu, Tanino, and Taniking appearing to be some kind of amphibious crustacean. Garock’s dinosaur-like appearance and Rock typing suggests it may have been intended as aFossil Pokemon, with its build even sharing some resemblance to Carracosta. Likewise, Kaburion is very clearly a defunct evolution of Karrablast.
After these designs, the remaining two designs are relatively unremarkable. Gurokken and Awanezumi were clearly scrapped relatively early into the design process, and bear little resemblance to any existing Pokemon. Awanezumi appears to be a rodent, meaning it could have been intended as Generation 5’sresident Pikachu clone, but it’s otherwise clear that these designs were discarded in favor of more distinct ideas.
Beta Pokemon Designs from Generation 5
Many of the Pokemon that did make it into the final version still have beta designs that were left on the cutting room floor. However, this appears to reaffirm that Generation 5’s overall designs had a relatively consistent plan from the start. While a few designs are barely recognizable, many of these beta designs closely represent their final counterparts.
For example,Gen 5’s Starter Pokemonseem relatively unchanged, only subject to a few changes in coloration. Meanwhile, the Legendary Pokemon known as the Forces of Nature have been completely redesigned. Kyurem is a perfect example to demonstrate this dynamic, as the beta design of its base form is drastically different, while its fusion forms seem relatively unchanged.
Unreleased Character Biographies of Generation 5 Trainers
Another major topic of discussion is the reveal of character biographies for numerous trainers throughout the series. It is important to recognize that theseleaks were sourced directly from Game Freak, and that these design documents were never intended to see the light of day. This means that these character biographies share information that, while interesting, can hardly be considered canon.
Particular subjects of focus include Gym Leaders throughout the game, as well as the Elite Four. Information featured in the character biographies includes age, ethnicity, and even the real world counterparts that supposedly inspired each character. Each of these biographies can be viewed in athread posted by Centro Leaks, with much of the information revealed being cause for controversy, and some details even spawning short-lived memes.
Other Massive Data Leaks from Pokemon Black and White
The Teraleak was named as such due to the leak uncovering around a Terabyte of data. Of course, this means that there is much more in store beyond beta designs and cut content. This has led to numerous miscellaneous leaks, each of which could carry different implications for the Generation in question.
Pokemon Black and White, for example, had its entire source code unearthed. This led to leakers discovering numerous unused audio files, and even a comprehensive debug menu. Regardless, this information did not contribute much to therumors aroundPokemonBlack and Whiteremakesor aLegendsgame set in the Unova region. That said, this has vastly improved fans' understanding of Generation 5, and will undoubtedly do wonders for ROMs in the future.
