Just about anything goes when it comes to custom designs drawn up by creativePokemonfans, with one artist recently impressing many in the community with a stunning piece of art that brings a cosmic look to Lapras, the Transport Pokemon. This iconic Pokemon, first introduced in the Gen 1Pokemontitles, has never received any official evolutions or pre-evolutions, nor has it gotten much in the way of unique forms outside of a Gigantamax form exclusively in the Gen 8 games.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Lapras has been a popular subject across fan-created artwork for nearly three decades now. ManyPokemonfans may be aware of the long-standing theorythat Lapras was originally supposed to fit into Squirtle’s evolutionary line somehow, perhaps as an alternate evolution to Wartortle. Though this never ended up being the case, it has led many fans to create what they imagine baby pre-evolutionary forms for Lapras could look like.
Baby Pokemon aside though, one creativePokemonenthusiast known online as MediShiki_ recently shared a simple yet beautiful drawing of Lapras. This artwork replaces Lapras' standard look with a “cosmic” body - a black silhouette that’s full of stars, just like a view of the night sky. It’s certainly a different type of fan work - plenty ofcustom Pokemon designs shared by fanspresent concepts of new Mega Forms, regional variants, and the like, but it seems like the idea of cosmic Pokemon is one that fans would like to see more of.
What This Fanmade Cosmic Pokemon Design Looks Like
In the core-seriesPokemongames, at least, shiny Pokemon tend to be the main things for collectors to seek out, though it would be interesting if new types of rare Pokemon forms were to be introduced in the future. At present, alternate Pokemon forms already come in a few different flavors. Regional variants and Paradox Pokemon, while totally different in terms of biology and lore, are similar in that they breathe new life into existing Pokemon in creative ways.Convergent Pokemon are also somewhat similar, introducing completely new Pokemon which are based heavily on the designs of existing ones - indicating that such different species can be biologically related.
Gameplay-wise, Mega Pokemon - andGigantamax forms inPokemonSword and Shield- present alternate Pokemon forms with powerful benefits. Much to the pleasant surprise of manyPokemonfans, Mega Pokemon are confirmed to be making a triumphant return next year inPokemon Legends: Z-A, with the game’s reveal earlier this year immediately inspiring countless fans to design new Mega Pokemon of their own.
