Summary

APokemonfan artist has given the Magnemite evolutionary line an overhaul with intriguing results. This is the artist’s latest attempt in reworking Pokemon that originated inPokemonRed and Blue.

Pokemonhas come a long way over its decades-spanning existence, and some fans may see some older Pokemon as growing bland as a result. Others simply like giving their own flair to an existing Pokemon rather than designing something completely new. In any case, fan art like this gives a glimpse into what it would be like ifPokemon’s developmenthad gone in a different direction.

Pokemon-game-series

Pokemonfan and Reddit user necrovvi has shared theirredesign of Magnemite, Magneton, and Magnezone. The Pokemon have all gone under significant changes, especially Magneton and Magnezone. Magnemite now has two small appendages on either side of its “face,” and what looks like a small electrode or a lightning rod on top of its head in place of the usual screw. Magneton has changed dramatically, with it essentially sprouting long robot-like appendages with a face on each one. The rods on its head have multiplied and become more pronounced, while what looks like small magnet bars float nearby. Magnezone, on the other hand, has become much more intimidating, maintaining the redesigned Magneton’s long robotic limbs, which have now gained robotic claws that look suitable for grasping or cutting.

Pokemon Fans Propose Magnemite Possibilities

Fans have been commenting on thePokemonfanart, with some mixed opinions on how these designs might fit into the series proper. Fans seemed to particularly like Magneton, as its original design is a bit plain, with it looking like three Magnemite have simply clustered together. A few saw shades of other robotic designs in the art, with one fan seeing similarities between the artist’s Magnezone design and the Sentinel robots fromThe Matrix, while another thought they looked likeZelda’s Guardians. Some thought the trio would work better as a convergent Pokemon line, especially since this version of Magnemite lacks the magnets from which it draws its name.

Necrovvi has plans to continue on to additional Gen 1 Pokemon, so it will be interesting to see what they tackle next. In the meantime, fans seem hopeful that more early-generation Pokemon will get an overhaul in theupcomingPokemon Legends: Z-A. The game is going to include Mega Evolutions, so it’s quite possible that some older Pokemon that haven’t seen changes in years could get a new evolution and possibly even become more viable in battle.
