Summary
OnePokemon GOfan uncovered a feature hiding in plain sight that makes Raids much easier. Since 2016, Pokemon enthusiasts have been finding more efficient ways to complete missions and battle bosses. This has led to extensive fan-made databases and wikis filled with valuable information, tips, and tricks. However, a recent discovery by aPokemon GOplayer could save everyone time and make them a bit less reliant on wikis.
Niantic has been steadily adding more quality-of-life features toPokemon GOto balance its extensive content. However, players feel the developers are slow to introduce these updates. They argue that a game likeGO, now eight years old, shouldn’t lack so many basic features that are already standard in the genre. To support their point, frustrated players note that theHeal All option was only added toPokemon GOthis Januaryafter years of demand and pressure. But despite fans criticizing Niantic for neglecting QoL improvements, a fan’s recent discovery suggests that the developer may actually be more focused on user-friendliness than it seems.
Reddit user Fatto-Catto-7 shared a screenshot of their Raid preparation page, highlighting a question mark icon they had just discovered. Pressing this button takes the player to the Type Effectiveness page, which lists all the Pokemon types that are strong against thecurrent Raid Boss inPokemon GO. The post has since gained thousands of upvotes, with many players admitting they’d never noticed the button before. As some users pointed out in the comments, it’s not surprising since the Type Effectiveness feature was added only recently—and the real surprise is that Niantic didn’t announce its inclusion.
How the Type Effectiveness Feature Works
Players will notice this option appear whenforming aPokemon GOteam for a Raidor battling Team GO Rocket Grunts. By tapping the question mark next to the search bar, they can view all the effective Pokemon against their opponent. Before this, players had to rely on third-party charts or their memory to select the best counters. It’s important to mention, though, that this feature doesn’t seem to work in PvP matches, and given the structure ofPokemon GObattles, it will likely remain a PvE-only option.
Fatto-Catto-7’s post has also sparked discussions about other hidden or lesser-known useful features. One fan pointed out that by tapping and holding a Pokemon’s avatar in the team selection menu, players can see its HP and moves, which can be very useful. Others mentioned search bar tricks, like the @[move] command that pulls up all Pokemon in the player’s Pokedex with that specific move. However, judging by the comments on the post, it’s clear that many fans are still unsatisfied with Niantic’s efforts to improve the game’s QoL apspects. In 2023,Niantic was accused of rejecting quality-of-life improvements forPokemon GObased on a manager’s “personal taste.” So, whether the company will address these criticisms in future updates remains to be seen.
