Summary
Fans recently uncovered a timeline for the first five Generations ofPokemongames, which was data mined from the recent Game Freak leak. Nintendo never officially confirmed when eachPokemongame was set canonically, so this information may potentially help fans improve their understanding of the series’ universe.
Recently,Game Freak suffered a major data breachwhich revealed information about multiple projects and the personal details of many of the company’s employees. The leak was packed with tons of content surrounding thePokemonfranchise, such as unreleased games, original character models, and ideas regarding upcoming titles.
Now, a prominent leaker named Centro Leaks has revealed a document detailing a timeline for the first five generations ofPokemongames. According to the leak, Gen 1 (Pokemon Red,Blue, andYellow) and 3 (Ruby,Sapphire, andEmerald) happen simultaneously during the “original year.” TheGen 2Pokemongames(Gold,Silver, andCrystal) are set three years after that, and the Gen 4 entries (Diamond,Pearl, andPlatinum) are set “soon after” the Johto-based games. Finally, Gen 5 Pokemon games (BlackandWhite) occur 10 years after Gen 2 and 4, and therefore, 13 years after the original games.
Unofficial Timeline of Pokemon Generations
According toThe Gamer, the leak also makes it possible to calculate the date of the Gen 7 titles (Pokemon SunandMoon), as thePokemonGen 1 protagonist Red appears in these games and is said to be 27 at the time. Therefore, Gen 7 would be set four years after Gen 5. Unfortunately, it’s still unknown when Gen 6 (Pokemon XandY) is set. It’s also important to understand that this is not officially announced information, and the reason why Game Freak never unveiled it may be because the developers ditched the timeline. This is not the only interesting information that surfaced after the leak, as a few weeks ago, Centro Leaks also revealed thatGen 10Pokemongames could be set on an archipelagowith many unique islands.
Another interesting discovery made by fans following the leak was that amobilePokemonparty game was canceled by Nintendo. According to leakers, the game was being deemed “Project Swallow" and was described as being similar toWarioWare. While it’s currently possible to see a few mini-games that would have been included in the title, it’s unknown why Project Swallow was canceled. Another project calledSynapse Pokemonis said to still be in development and is described as aPokemonmultiplayer game with elements similar to the popularSplatoonseries.
