Amid recentPokemonleaks, one seemingly forgotten Pokemon might be primed for a resurgence. WithPokemon Legends: Z-Aon the horizon, it may be the perfect chance to revisit Mega Evolutions for certain creatures that have gone a long time without updates. SinceLegends: Z-Ais set to revisit the Kalos region, fans are expecting the return of Mega Evolutions, a mechanic that played a massive role in the story ofPokemon X and Y.
As new gimmicks to the game have been added with each generation, Mega Evolution has seemingly fallen by the wayside, butMega Evolutions can make up for lost timeif executed well inLegends: Z-A.
Of course, this would mean the return of existing creatures with Mega forms, but fans also expect more classic Pokemon to receive the Mega treatment. The series includes tons of monsters that haven’t seen the spotlight in a while, and leaks may point to one in particular that deserves a second chance. Recent evidence suggests that Jynx likely had a planned Mega Evolution that was cut fromX and Y, and the upcoming title has an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed out on.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Can Breathe New Life into Old Pokemon
Jynx made her debut among the original 151 Pokemon but has been recently left in the shadows while other creatures from the era continue to receive the spotlight. There may be reason to believe that Jynx is left alone due to her turbulent history; because of potentially racist undertones, Jynx was one of several Pokemon whose designs were altered. However, after the changes, Game Freak still included her in Generation 2 updates.
For a time, it seemed like she was part of a trio that also included Magmar and Electabuzz when the three of them all received pre-evolutions in the form of baby Pokemon. That said, this theory was debunked when the other two received new evolutions in Generation 4, but Jynx did not. Since Generation 2, Jynx has become a somewhat obscure Pokemon, although there is some evidence that she was set to receive a Mega Evolution in Generation 6. While that ultimately didn’t come to pass, leaks andMega Evolution fan designshave kept hope alive.
Because manyPokemonfans have fond memories of the franchise’s earliest days, Kanto Pokemon are frequently chosen to receive new mechanics, such as Mega Evolutions or regional forms. In fact, only a handful of Pokemon from Generation 1 haven’t been updated since their release. With the return of Mega Evolutions,Gen 1 Pokemon have another chance to receive new forms, and Jynx is a prime example.
Cut Content May Return in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
With such a massive series and so much potential, it’s no surprise that many ideas for thePokemongames get left on the cutting room floor. This is seemingly what happened with Jynx’s possible Mega Evolution, which isn’t even the only content found that was left out of the Generation 6 release. Indeed, players have found scores of cut content, most notably a new form and special move for AZ’s Floette. It’s long been speculated that so much was left out ofX and Ybecause she was intended to be included in a follow-up, often referred to asPokemon Z. As such, some players believe theLegends: Z-Awill make good on cut contentfrom the hypotheticalPokemon Z.
Including content that was planned for Gen 6 would be the perfect way to keep the region of Kalos thematically united between the Generation 6 games andPokemon Legends: Z-A.X and Ywere a major step forward in thePokemonseries, introducing many patterns that are still present in the newest games. The most important of these trends was the initiative to breathe new life into underutilized Pokemon.Mega Evolution was a saving grace for Pokemonlike Beedrill and Mawile and could be the same for Jynx and others.
