Summary
TwoPredatormovies are slated to be released in theaters next year. News of a secondPredatorfilm coming so soon surprised fans, and now rumored plot details promise moviegoers multiple exciting stories with the alien hunter.
After the success of Hulu’sPrey, director Dan Trachtenberg returned to the franchise to helmPredator: Badlands. This standalone entry in thePredatorfilm series stars Elle Fanning and centers on two sisters, who discover their terrifying past while traveling across the wasteland. This project was announced in early 2024, but 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbel recently let slip thattwoPredatormovies were arriving in 2025. However, he did not divulge any plot details.
Now,i09reports that multiple sources have told them the secretPredatormovie is an animated anthology film. According to the online publication, the animatedmovie tells three stories in which Predators fight warriors in different eras. One story focuses on pirates, the second involves samurai, but specific details on the third plot weren’t provided. i09 cautions readers to consider the information a rumor. While they trust their sources, Disney had not reached back to i09 for an official statement at the time of the writing.
When Asbel toldThe Hollywood Reporterthat twoPredatormovies were being released next year, he specifically referred toBadlandsas"the live-action" one. This seemingly implies the secondPredatormovie wouldn’t be live-action, adding credence to i09’s report that the secret project is an animated feature. Asbel also mentioned that when Trachtenberg told them he didn’twant to make aPreysequel, the director proposed multiple “crazy but really cool” alternate ideas. Arguably, an anthology film where the Predator fights pirates and samurai would fit this description.
If these plot rumors for the secretPredatormovie are correct, the franchise would be moving in a direction fans have wanted for several years. AfterPrey–a prequel set in the Northern Great Plains over 200 years before the firstPredatormovie that centered on a young Comanche woman named Naru–was a success for Hulu, many fans immediately wanted the franchise to tell stories set in different historical periods. There aregreat historical periods for aPreysequelorPredatormovie, and the secret project may have tapped into two of them.
Of course, many fans want to see a directPreysequel starringAmber Midthunder as Naru, but there may be some time before that comes to fruition. In the meantime, thePredatorfranchise may delve into new territory next year, which should satisfy fans if the results work out.
Predator: Badlandsis scheduled to be released in theaters on July 15, 2025.
